Test: skew (pair to pair and deser. to deser.), length and BER.
All delivered and tested. 6 cables to repair, 4 due
to high skew and 2 due to bad conenction. To be received this week.
In total 116 cables.
Top (18 m) 40 + 6 spares
Top (20 m) 14 + 2 spares
Bottom (27 m) 42 + 8 spares

I. Status of cables: power cables
• Between Marathon Power Supplies and Regulator cards:
– Two cables per regulator card (16 cards) of 3 pairs of conductors (4 mm2) of tinned copper screened to the ensemble with braid of tinned copper and insulation of type polyolefin Z1 halogen free.
– Outer diameter: 19,8 mm. Bending radius: 200 mm
– Length: 22 m for top and 32 m for bottom.– Two reels of 750 m received.– Already delivered at CERN, to be cut.– Installed without connector.
• Between Regulator cards and VFE cards:
– One cable of 6 pairs of conductors (0.5 mm2) per VFE.
– Same conductor and insulation materials.– Outer diameter: 13,4 mm. Bending radius:
134 mm.– Length: if VFE and regulator cards in same
box 2.5 m, otherwise 3.5 m.– Delivered at BCN
Both are LS – 0H – FR.
Being studied by CERN safety group.
I. Status of cables: control/Clock cables
• Category 5e LAN cables from Nexans (FTP).• Shielded RJ 45 connectors.• Low smoking, flame retardant and halogen free.• Outer diameter: 5.9 mm• Bending radius: 48 mm• Length: 20 m top and 29 m bottom.• Needed 62 + 8 spares (top) and 54 + 8 spares
(bottom).• Received, except spares.• Remaining cables (spares) will be received by mid
June.• Tested by manufacturer.• Delivered at BCN.
I. Status of cables
• High voltage cables: the cable will be delivered in July-August and connectors will be mounted during September. Need to group cables.
• Other cables: DSS and LED?
II. Cable reels
• Data cables: same as PS reel (60 x 8 cm), but with modified hole to fit different connector. 116 units
• Control cables: same as PS PS. 26 units.• Power cables: bigger reel. Offer from another
manufacturer for 63 x 25 cm. Same manufacturer? Weight will be 20 Kg. 32 units.
• Other cables (HV, DSS, LED) are same as PS.
• Preparation of reels during September and first half of October.
III. Labelling
• Labels in cables (for installation of electronics): final labels as proposed in EDMS note 699289.
• Labels in reels (for installation of cables), Gael’s proposal:
1. SubDetector/ rack number / Inner or Outer / number (or color) of the compartment in the cable chain / place in the compartment defined by a matrice (a letter and a number).
2. VFE box / position inside box.
• Preparation of labels during September and first half of October
IV. Cabling inside VFE box
• Worst case: 4 VFE and 2 regulator cards.
IV. Cabling inside VFE box
• Regulator LV out: worst case: 13 cables.
5 cm for LED and DSS
IV. Cabling inside VFE box
• Regulator LV in: connection at the entrance
IV. Cabling inside VFE box
• VFE connection
V. Cabling in Racks
• Bar at the back of racks to attach data cables.
• LV patch panel TO BE DESIGNED.– To connect PS and SPD LV cables to Power
Supplies.– Fuses for fire prevention and LEDs
indicating voltage and o.c. fuse.– Connection (mechanics) of 20 mm LV
cables???– SOME DISCUSSION IS NEEDED to
determine position and size. When? Who?
