P.E is Wednesday at 11:45am. Please ensure your child has their hat, water bottle and running shoes. Library is Tuesday at 11:15am. Please bring a library bag to take home a book. Students will participate in the Blast Off Reading program which is designed to get prep students reading books. They will begin a version of home reading during the later part of the term. Students will choose a favourite familiar story and give a short oral response to the story. The teacher will also be observing how well the students are beginning to demonstrate reading and writing behaviours. Maths Students will spend the majority of their Maths lessons investigating Number and Place Value. They will be counting objects, subitising (knowing how many is there just by looking) and identifying how many is in a group. Students will be exploring how to sort and classify objects according to their size, shape and colour. Teachers will be observing the students’ ability to count, subitise and identify how many. Students will be assessed on their ability to sort and classify a collection of objects.

Curriculum focus – what we will be working on in class this term

Content Assessment

Science Students will be undertaking a unit on the

weather. They will learn to link how the changes in daily weather to the way people

modify their behaviour and dress for the different conditions. Students will investigate how changes in the weather might affect

animals such as pets, animals that hibernate or migratory animals.

Students will undertake a variety

of hands-on and written activities to demonstrate their scientific

understanding of why everyday lives are impacted by the changes in weather.

HASS (Humanities

and Social Sciences)

Students will investigate their own personal story, exploring their family background and

relationships within their family. Students will develop an understanding of their own history and appreciate diverse family groups using

our family photo pages.

Students will identify similarities and differences between families

and talk about a past event.

The Arts (Drama)

Unit 1 - My Place Students will make and respond to drama by

exploring the school/local community/imagined places as stimulus for process drama and dramatic play.

Students are not formally assessed on this topic.

Technology In this unit the students will explore and investigate technologies, including their purpose and how they meet personal and

social needs in the Prep classroom.

Students are not formally assessed on this learning area this term.

Health Unit: I can do it

Students will explore information about what makes them unique, identifying their strengths and achievements. They will

identify safe settings where they can move and play safely and identify actions that keep

them safe in different settings. They will also identify different emotions people experience in different situations.

Students are not formally

assessed on this learning area this term.

P.E Unit: Let’s Get Moving

Students will learn how to perform a range of

fundamental movement skills and apply them to solve movement challenges. They will learn to apply rules to keep them safe and follow

these rules in simple games.

Students will be assessed on

their ability to perform running, jumping, hopping and galloping

over 10m in a straight line. They will solve movement challenges and demonstrate practices to

stay safe in different activities.

Music Students will learn to identify and keep the

beat, sing in unison and in echo with the teacher, and will play egg maracas.

Students will be assessed by

how well they move to the beat, sing in tune with their teacher

and their peers, and how accurately they keep the beat using correct instrument

technique when playing egg maracas.
