Two bin system1. Paper and card.2. Everything else
-
Both taken to a material recycling facility (MRF)

Material issorted by machine
-
MagnetsSeparate the ferrous metals e.g. tin cans.
-
Eddy current separators These separate the non-ferrous metals e.g. aluminium cans.
-
Ballistic separatorsThrow material up and forward over screens to sort material into light and heavy material also cleaning it of dust and dirt.
-
TrommelsA rotating cylinder separates material by size.
-
Air knivesA directed blast or flow of air that is used to separate light materials from heavier particles as they move along a conveyor or that have been blown into a column. It operates just like a hair drier.
-
This technology separates the recycling from your general waste
-
80% is recycled from your general waste
-
Once the various types of material are sorted
-
It is made into bales
-
The baler crushes and wraps the material
-
Making it easier to transport
-
They are sent to a variety of users
-
Paper
-
Is made back into paper
-
Then back into newspapers and magazines
-
And other paper products
-
Aluminium cans
-
Are melted into ingots
-
Or made into sheets
-
Then made back into cans
-
And other products
-
Cardboard is pulped
-
Then made into new cardboard
-
And not just boxes
-
Steel cans
-
Are made into new cans
-
Or building steel
-
Plastic bottles
-
Can be made back into plastic bottles
-
Or other (not so obvious) products
-
Plastic film comes in a wide variety of types
-
It can be recycled into a variety of plastic film
-
The organic fines are processed into a refuse derived fuel
-
Thanks for watching and happy recycling
