Come Ye SinnersWords by Joseph Hart

Music by Matthew Smith

4. Let not conscience make you linger,

nor of fitness fondly dream.

All the fitness He requires

is to feel your need of Him.

This He gives you, this He gives you,

'Tis the Spirit's rising beam.

5. Lo! The Incarnate God, ascended;

pleads the merit of His blood.

Venture on Him; venture wholly,

Let no other trust intrude.

None but Jesus, none but Jesus

Can do helpless sinners good.

*Call to Worship2 Psalm 138: 4 – 6

All the kings of the earth shall give you thanks, O Lord, for they have heard the words of your mouth, and they shall sing of the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord. For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar.

*Prayer of Adoration and Invocation Pastor Jamie Peterson

*Hymn of Praise “The Sands of Time Are Sinking” Cousin/Palmertree

2 We believe that God always initiates with sinners, so we begin worship with His invitation and command to us to gather in His name.

Call to Confession Galatians 5: 19 – 21

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Silent Confession of Sin

Corporate Confession of Sin

To enrich me will not diminish your fullness; All your lovingkindness is in your Son, I bring him to you in the arms of faith, I urge his saving name as the one who died for me, I plead his blood to pay for my debts of wrong. Accept his worthiness for my unworthiness his sinlessness for my transgression, his purity for my uncleanness, his sincerity for my guile, his truth for my deceits, his meekness for my pride, his constancy for my backslidings, his love for my enmity, his fullness for my emptiness, his faithfulness for my treachery, his obedience for my lawlessness, his glory for my shame, his devotedness for my waywardness, his holy life for my unchaste ways, his righteousness for my dead works, his death for my life. AMEN

*Offer of Forgiveness Through Christ Philippians 3: 8, 9

Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith

Children’s Church Dismissal3

Pastoral Prayer Elder Toby Griggs

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. AMEN

Sermon Romans 13: 11 – 14 Pastor Curt Presley

11 Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

3 Children’s Church is a special opportunity we provide for children three to four years of age to help them and their parents make the transition from the nursery to “big church”. They are dismissed with the help of a parent after the collection of tithes and offering to the gym to where they will participate in the singing of the Doxology, praying the Lord’s Prayer, a Bible story, snack, and a brief play period to get some energy out. This is not a “babysitting” time, but to help them grow and mature as worshipers of God that He has created them to be. After Children’s Church they will be led back into the sanctuary to be with their parents for the closing hymn. Please note that Children’s Church is an option for you and your child. If you would choose to keep your child with you for the entire service and not have them participate in Children’s Church we support that as well!

Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper4

*Hymn of Response “Ten Thousand Times Ten Thousand” (TH 246) Wesley/Stone

4 The bread and juice you see on the Communion table may not look like much to the casual observer. In fact, it is merely bread and juice. What makes this meal special is that the Lord Jesus Christ is spiritually present in a unique way. This sacrament is not something to be taken lightly but neither is it a time to be somber; rather, we should be filled with thankfulness and joy. Our Savior, out of His great mercy, bids His people to come to this meal. If you are a member of a church who embraces the Gospel of Jesus Christ and are at peace with your fellow Christians, we welcome you to this table. Come and consider with us our Lord’s body and shed blood symbolized in the bread and juice. Rejoice with us in our union with Him and with each other as His Covenant people.

Postlude

5 Just as God has the first word in worship, He also has the last word. For those who are in Christ Jesus, these are always words of blessing. We look up and extend our hands out in a posture of receiving the blessing of God.

- Men's Wild Game Dinner - Thursday, October 27 at 6:00 p.m. All men are invited to enjoy fellowship, great food, worship, and teaching. For those without wild game, please know that side dishes and desserts are equally appreciated! The church's grill will be ready in the back parking lot by 5:15 p.m. if you want to cook your dish here, and we will plan to start eating at 6:00 p.m. Justin McGuire, pastor of College Hill Presbyterian Church, will be our guest speaker. Please invite friends and coworkers to join us too! Contact Brandon Ames (662-816-2123) if you have any questions or are interested in helping coordinate the event.

-Women's Ministry: Ladies, if you are interested in meeting with a small group monthly/bimonthly, please check out the sign up lists in the foyer.

-Brown Bag Theology: Tuesdays at 12:10 p.m., in the CPC Conference Room. This week in our series on Eschatology (the Bible's teaching on last things), "The Final Judgment" This may be one of the harder teachings of Scripture, but for Christians, it is nevertheless glorious event to anticipate. How should rethink and take about it? Join the discussion--all are welcome!

-Fall 2016 Adult Sunday School Classes: Parables in the Gospel of Matthew: Pastor/Scholar James Montgomery Boice said, “Some sections of the Bible give us grand theology. Some move us to grateful responses to God. But the parables break through mere words and make us ask whether there has indeed been any real difference in our lives. And isn’t this what we should expect, since the parables come from the lips of Jesus.” Come join us for a study of the parables in the Gospel of Matthew as we will explore what difference Jesus has made and should make in our lives. Taught by Clay Dabbs and Jamie Peterson.

The Gospel…according to Elijah & Elisha: Decline of a nation; undoing of the good; abuse of power; idolatry in the land; forgetfulness of a people. This is what characterized Israel in the days of the Old Testament prophets Elijah and Elisha. And yet—the relentless pursuit of a loving God; awesome displays of His presence in their midst; mighty saving acts on behalf of His people. This is the other part of Israel’s story—and ours too. This fall come walk with Elijah and Elisha as they show us in surprising (and sometimes shocking) ways God’s presence and power—both to confront sinners and preserve His people. Taught by Melvin Manickavasagam and Steve Redding.

Today: 5:30 p.m. - Evening Worship. Sermon text: James 1:12- 18

-Reminder- Immediately following the worship service next Sunday, October 9, we are scheduled to elect four building team members from the CPC congregation. The names of the nominees will be sent to you this coming Thursday so that you will have time prayerfully to consider the candidates. The top two female vote-getters and the top two male vote-getters will be put on the team. As communicated to you earlier, this team will be responsible for helping gather congregational input regarding building design, interacting with our architects about that information, and helping the architects understand CPC’s mission, vision, and personality. Please be in prayer about this important meeting in the life of CPC!!

- CPC conducts a worship service every 1st Sunday of the month at NMRC from 3:00-3:30 pm. This is a special time with some of God's most special people. We are in great need of additional CPC members to assist with this monthly ministry. We have found this to be a wonderful opportunity for participation of your children and teenagers. Music for this ministry is a critical need. If you feel led to assist in this special, once monthly ministry, please contact Brian Simmons at 801-3869 or [email protected].

-October 8 - Parenting Seminar We invite all parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and covenant parents to our annual parenting seminar. The talks will be geared toward parenting teens, but will be helpful to all parents. This year our main speaker will be Rev. Joey Stewart, executive director of Reformed Youth Ministries (RYM). He will be speaking on "Parenting Our Children Toward Jesus" from Psalm 78. Breakfast and childcare will be provided. Please RSVP to Scott at www.christpresoxford.org/youth
