Reader: With hearts from which courage has taken leave, People: We turn to you, O Lord, our refuge from dealers in fear. Reader: We have hewn out for ourselves broken cisterns that can hold no water. People: Now we turn to you, O God, the fountain of living water, ALL: that courage might rule our hearts and justice cover the earth. *HYMN #60 "I'll Praise My Maker While I've Breath" MORNING PRAYER As we gather this morning we remember and lift the concerns of others to you. (Prayer requests will be spoken on our behalf. After each request the congregation will respond, “Loving God, hear our prayer.”) As we pray for those we love and know, we pray for those who we often do not know, the poor, the homeless, the unwelcome refugees, the immigrants, “your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Let us do our part to embrace these children of yours. Now O loving God hear us as offer this litany. Pastor: O God, when the world grows weary of our righteous confessions and rigid creeds, People: help us to remember that Jesus did not go about talking big, but doing good. Pastor: When the world grows weary of our date-setting speculations and doomsday prophecies, People: help us to remember that Jesus did not go about chasing mysteries but confronting realities. Pastor: When the world grows weary of our sterile knowledge and our strident doctrines, People: help us to remember that Jesus did not go about defending propositions but speaking parables. Pastor: When the world grows weary of our clannish nationalism and religious parochialism, People: help us to remember that Jesus did not go about coddling bigotry, but demanding charity. Pastor: When the world grows weary of our childish beliefs and other worldly concerns, People: help us to remember that Jesus did not go about pondering eternity but practicing love. ALL: So faith, hope, and love abide; but the greatest of these is Love. Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And for give us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Jesse Lee Church is the direct descendent of the oldest continuously operating Methodist Society of New England. Our church traces its origin to 1789 when Jesse Lee, A Methodist Circuit Rider (traveling preacher), was appointed to spread the Word of God to New England. The congregation has met in this warm colonial sanctuary since 1813. The United Methodist Church is a Protestant Christian denomination of 10 million members in the USA and around the world. It is affiliated with Methodist Churches in 87 countries in the world. We confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the historic Christian faith.

Our Vision

Jesse Lee United Methodist Church seeks to be a compassionate congregation whose members, through word and deed, live the Great Commandment of Jesus Christ to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and your neighbor as yourself.”
