Name of the film:

I choose ‘Detension’ as the title of the film due to the storyline being about a student trying to escape from school but being trapped inside.

I wanted to play on words and replaced the ‘t’ from the word detention with the letter ‘s’ to create the word ‘tension’ within the title. This would give the audience a clue of what the film is about and that there is a lot of tension involved in the storyline which relates back to the horror genre.

The opening titles of my teaser trailer has a ripple effect on the screen to portray the distorted content and storyline incorporated in the trailer. The ‘s’ flickers a red and back to white colour to show the trailer is full of ‘tension’. I choose the red flickering ‘s’ to put across the horror genre of the film and to convey the danger the student may be confronted with during their Detention.The red font against the white font is very striking and is noticeable for the audience to understand what I am trying to imply. I positioned the text in the very centre of the shot so that the title is the most important thing on the screen.The opening title is over an establishing shot which is panning to the right to show the location of the film.

The title of my actors in my teaser trailer are all in capitals to show that the actors would be the selling point of the film. White font is chosen against the black background to make it very bold and to also make it simple and easy for the audience to read. The text zooms in from small to large, this brings the text to the front of the mind so the audience will not forget which actors are involved in the film; it will make it more memorable.

The titles ‘Based on a true school memory...’ draws the audience in and would make them want to watch the film in full.The text fades in from black which makes the white font stand out on the black background.I choose to have the text positioned in the centre so it is has the audiences’ full attention and highlights the formal approach to the ‘true story’.

The titles are on a black background with white text used to contrast and also to link into the horror genre.

This title is also a play on words... picking out letters to create another word which may surprise the audience.Within ‘You’ve got Detention... frightened?’ I picked out three letters to create ‘die’. This creates further tension and suspense which will generate an interest for the audience.

The title changes from ‘You’ve got Detention...Frightened?’ to D i e in a quickflash which is in red against a black background. This emphasises the horror genre and the death aspect.

These titles fade in and I chose to have white text against the black background once again to keep the continuity and to stand out.The words in this title have different font sizes... hierarchy of the different words shows the emphasised status of the title ‘Detension’.The ‘s’ in Detension flickers red again to keep the house style from the start to the end titles.

The very end title is the production company title. This fades in and also fades out for the film trailer to end smoothly.The text is white against the black background once again to keep the continuity and also to portray the horror genre.Use of capitals to show importance and also to make sure the audience remember when the film is coming out.

Close up shot of the Detention slip reveals to the audience that the film’s storyline is based around The framing of the shot clearly shows the detention slip so the audience know that the film is based on a schools detention with a horror twist.

The close up of the door handle closing creates tension and shows the audience that the student is on their own in the detention room. The sound of the door closing creates an eerie tone to the shot.

Mid to long shot of the character sat down is a simple shot to tell the audience that at some point in the film the student is on their own- building of tension and suspense.

The mid shot of the character opening the door is shot from behind to make the audience experience the character’s point of view. It also links into the next shot of the character looking out of the door, so we see both angles of the character.

The mid to long shot of the student character looking out of the door creates a tense atmosphere for the audience as they don’t know what is going to be around the corner, there is also tense music playing to increase the amount of suspense in this shot.

The long shot of the character walking outside is positioned far away in a corridor so the student is the focus of attention and also the walls on either side connote the idea of them being ‘trapped’ inside.

The handheld panning shot is very effective to make the viewers feel like they are in the character’s shoes… discovering these blood stains. The shot starts on the floor then suddenly speeds up to make it more shocking and unexpected for the audience.

The close up shot of the finger with blood on it starts the fast paced sequence of shots which correlate to the beat of the music building to a climax at the very end of the film trailer. This shot is effective as it portrays the horror genre and is positioned for the audience to see the blood clearly and part of the character looking at it.

This long shot of the character running is filmed ‘still’ so the character seems like they are being chased and also the pace of the running seems very fast.

The mid shot of the character shaking the gate is filmed in front of a caged gate again to convey the trapped connotation incorporated in the film trailer. After shot number (1)… shot number (2) is a very quick flash shot with a mysterious hand in a red effect to shock the audience.

The mid shot of the character climbing the date is filmed from a low angle to make the gate look impossible to climb and escape from the school grounds as the theme is being ‘trapped’.

The mid shot of the character running has horror themed images flashing to the beat of the music getting quicker with blackouts as the music increases in tempo to build the tension at the very end.

This close up of the character with a mysterious hand covering their mouth is a surprise shot after the ‘question title’… this shot teases the audience to tell them that there is more to come in the film which will make them want to watch it.

-Distorted electronic sound to compliment the distorted ripple effect on the screen-Lower tone of the distorted music when scene changes-Tension sound when character walks up to the door-When character opens the door there are heavy drum beats and creaking to show a sense of mystery and again tension-Continues with the tension music that fades out when the character walks out of the door with a creak-Animal creature sounds breathing when the shots of blood is on the wall with hand smears -Drums beat in time with all the action on screen... fast paced music kicks in when the blood is on the characters finger-Music builds and builds until the big climax of the trailer where there are lots of images correlating with the music -Sharp, striking sound to end the trailer

The distorted sounds used at the start of the trailer reflect the corrupt storyline as it is a horror film and the confusing music/distorted electronic sounds make the audience feel uncomfortable.

The lower key sound of the distorted music fits in correlation with the shot on screen; the panning shot turns into an over the shoulder shot into a close up of the detention slip- this creates tension.

The tension sound begins as the character walks up to the door.

The tension music is continued to keep the audience enticed and teased about what will happen.

The sound of the door closing creates suspense as to where the character has gone, keeping the audience questioning and wondering.

The faded drums beats creates suspense as to what may happen next.

The heavy drum beats make it easy for the dramatic shots to create a big affect on the viewers.

The fast paced climatic music towards the end of the trailer will tease the audience as to whatthey are going to watch in the film.

The sharp strike sound was chosen to add an image that would make the audience really want to watch the film and would also shock them.
