Headline , or tittle , main bit of information. Put in bold

Logo

Image: giving the impression the school is sporty.

Sports section: talking about lots of different sports showing they do different sports.

Advertisement: showing the school is in association with businesses.

Information about the picture showing what has happened in the picture and is the main story of the school as it takes up more of the page than any other story.

Main pictures is of football and the school teams, this shows sport is the important to this school and they are good at it especially football.

Title: In bold and sais “success” meaning their good at football.

AS Media Studies Preliminary Task – School Magazine Front Page Proposal Form

Target audience: (age range, interests)Although it is a school newsletter you still have to think about your audience and how to appeal to them.

11-70, this is the range as it will be for students parents and teachers. It has to have news on the school and about important headlines.

Possible title ideas: (masthead / title block)What is your magazine going to be called?

Title of main story of the school. Have information about head teacher etc…

Main image:What will be the focal point of your front page, remember, your work “must include a photograph of a student in a medium close-up”

The focal point and main image should be a image about or relating to the main story or headline of the newspaper or magazine.

Main cover line:What will be the main story?

Something that has recently happened in the school ( yr. 10 wins football tournament)

Additional key images:What other images will be on your front cover?Remember, it is a school magazine.

School logoPicture of the school (pupil or the building)Some of teachers

Additional cover lines:Other features, stories or selling points which will be inside the magazine, these need to be audience appropriate.

Main events Information (uniform, buses, results) Sports and achievements

Typography: (style, size, colour of copy)Think about the writing and the style of the writing on your front page.

Consistent Basic colours black or grey, Bold for titles

Background colour/image:What will be in the background, remember you don’t want to take the focus away from the main image.

Not the same colour as the tex5t else you wont be able to read itNot to bright to take attention away from the image

Technical considerations:(equipment, setting, props, costume, lighting)Be realistic and creative, think about what you have access to and how you could use it.

Props would include a text book, table, pencil/pen and an exercise book for the main cover, and pieces of Paper for the photo of students with their results Lighting will be natural, people included will be in sixth form attire. The setting will vary from being in a Classroom to being outside to show a variety of the school.

Brief

• We were asked to make a magazine front cover and contents page, we were using the software we will use for our music magazine. This software was Photoshop. We roughly designed it on a piece of paper to get a ruff idea on what to do.

Notes on the process

In took 3 medium shots and I choose the one circles as I think it shows the persons personality and it was more fun and less serious than the others making it more natural.

I have learnt …

From this I have learnt how to create a effective front cover and contents page on Photoshop, I have used research and applied this and I have learnt what certain audiences want from a school magazine. I have learned how to use programs in a more complex way and apply certain tools on Photoshop to make a more complex design.

Editing a image

On my images I just removed the background mostly by using a magic wand and quick selection tool, I also added black and white effect to my images by clicking “images” “adjustments” then “black and white”
