In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge

conventions of real media products?

Preliminary Evaluation1

Page 2: Preliminary Task 1 Laurelle

Front Page

• My page follows many conventions such as;

– Masthead at the top of the page which is in a serif font as the magazine is meant to be formal and aimed at parents and teachers

– I have used formal photos illustrating what the school looks like; representing it in a positive light

– I have followed a suitable colour scheme across the two pages

– There are formal coverlines

• I have challenged certain conventions on my front page such as;

– Having my main cover line at the bottom which I think makes the reader look at the whole magazine page

Contents Page

• The contents page follows conventions such as;

– The page is well structured, following grids to make it look more professional.

– The colour is the same as the front page showing continuality

– Pictures are used to illustrate the contents in the magazine

• Conventions challenged are;

– I have put a subscription box in the middle of the page which is usually located on the last page of the magazine. This makes more people interested and might make them want to buy more issues.
