The Preface is the official weekly newspaper of IU South Bend. The Preface publishes approximately 30 issues a year with a distribution of 1,000 papers. The paper currently uses a six column, 11.25x14.25 inch tabloid format. The paper is published on Wednesday, except in the cases of the back-to-school issue or a delay in production relating to a special event or general printing delays. The Preface is available through various stands placed throughout campus.

• In 2009, IU South Bend reached a new enrollment record with over 8,300 students registering and enrolling for class-es. That is up 8.8% from the previous year. The previous record was set in fall 1992 with almost 7,800 students reg-istering for classes.

• IU South Bend is also a commuter campus, with the ma-jority of students living in the surrounding communities.

• The River Crossing Apartments offer on-campus housing to both traditional and non-traditional students, as well as a large international student population.

• The campus is located on a major public transportation line that also provides to service to regional bus, rail and airport service.

• IU South Bend is the third largest campus in the IU net-work.

• The Raclin School of the Arts is world recognized school for its music program that attracts attention from interna-tional students. It is also the home of the Toradze Piano Studio and the Euclid String Quartet.

• There are over 50 clubs currently registered with the Of-fice of Student. This gives students a chance to become involved through a clubs, including a newly created Radio Club and a nationally recognized Nap Club (Associated Press article 2007).

PRICING INFORMATION MECHANICAL/DELIVERY

The Preface uses a column-inch rate method for its advertis-ing. A column is 9p5 or 1.57 inches. A total page is 61p6 or 10.25 inches wide. The maximum height an ad can be is 11 inches. For example, a full page is 66 column inches (number of columns of ad x inches in height).

EXAMPLE PRICING:A local advertiser wishes to place a full-page ad in the news-paper. The Preface publishes a 6 column newspaper. The price would be 6 columns x 11 inches = 66 inches x $4.25=$280.50.

CAMPUS RATE: Only applies to ON CAMPUS businesses and NON-PROFIT organizations, clubs and organizations. Student-owned businesses are not eligible for this rate.

INSERT RATES: $186. A fee of $50 will occur if the adver-tisements have to be folded. Inserts should be at 5 inches by 7 inches to avoid a folding charge. WEB ADVERTISING RATES:

Ads that require creative work will be assessed a cre-ative services fee starting at $25.

Advertisers needing creative services should have ad material sent two weeks prior to ad to run. Including any

graphics, logos and text.

Ads should be in the appropriate size. Ads not meeting the correct size will be floated on the page without a border and will be sized to fit the purchased ad size.

ALL ADS MUST BE IN GRAY SCALE FORMAT!

We accept the following formats:

All ads should be in gray scale.

Terms and Conditions Payment Information• The Preface accepts advertising for products, events and

services offered by legitimate businesses and organiza-tions.

• The Preface does not accept classified, informational or advertorial advertising.

• Political ads must contain: Paid for by the committee to elect CANDIDATE’S NAME.

• The Preface maintains the right to refuse advertising at any time without reason.

• All payments for refused advertising will be returned.• Prepayment does not guarantee that an ad will run.• All ad material must be received one week prior to run

date.• Any ad requiring graphic design services must be received

14 business days prior to run date by Wednesday 5 p.m.• Page position is not sold or guaranteed, but may be re-

quested.• All cancellations by the advertiser must be made in writ-

ing, four business days prior to run dates.• In the case of cancellation, credit will be applied to the

advertisers account toward future runs.• Cash refunds are not available.• Advertising cancelled after the deadline for publication is

subject to full charge.• Please contact a Preface representative with any questions

regarding the advertising policy.

• Statements are mailed within three days of printing. the advertiser agrees that all the bills are payable (net) within 30 days from the date printed on the statement.

• Payment of the full balance is required.• Tear sheets are mailed within 3 days of publication.• The Preface reserves the right to request full or partial

payment in advance or to cancel credit privileges at any time or on any account.

• A late payment penalty of 1.25% per month will be charged on past-due bills
