PRECAUTIONARY

1 LIGHT i. Experiment must be carried out indarkened room

ii. Lens, screen and object must be in lineiii. Avoid parallax error by placing the eye

such that the line of view isperpendicular to the scale of the ruler

2 SPRING i. Make sure the sping is not loadedbeyond the elastic limit ( spring returnto original length when load is taken off)

iv. Avoid parallax error by placing the eyesuch that the line of view isperpendicular to the scale of the ruler

3 ELECTRIC i. All connections must be secure / tightii. Off the switch after reading are taken to

prevent wire from heating up( resistance increase)

v. Avoid parallax error by placing the eyesuch that the line of view isperpendicular to the scale of theammeter / voltmeter

4 HEAT i. Liquid must be stirred constantly so thattemperature rises evenly

ii. Alluminium block must be wrapped withinsulating material to prevent heat lost

iii. Thermometer bulb should be smearedwith oil to give better thermal contactwith the block

vi. Avoid parallax error by placing the eyesuch that the line of view isperpendicular to the scale of thethermometer

5 MEASURINGINSTRUMENTS

perpendicular to the scale readii. Take into account zero of instrument
