Week 1 - Pre-production

PLANNED SCHEDULE

Day 1 – discussing possible ideas to forward for the production assignment.

Day 2 – to finalise the initial proposal and plan the location for filming and to include location recces/ideas to go with it. Start doing pre-production paperwork such as: storyboarding, prop/costume list, budgeting, release forms, risk assessment and production schedule.

Day 3 – to continue all the paperwork needed and to decide who to cast.

WEEK SUMMARY

The time we allocated for pre-production lasted for a week (31st October – 4th November). For the pre-production week, we encountered no problem that could hinder our planning. We spent two days finalising our initial proposal and shot list. We also started doing the storyboard as early as the 2nd day, where the idea is already solid – the storyboard is still on-going, carrying on onto the filming week. However, the storyboard is almost done and would not affect the early scenes that needs shooting.

We manage to compile the paperwork needed for the assignment such as: initial idea proposal, props and costume list, storyboard (on-going), budgeting sheet, releases for location and talent and production schedule. We planned to do our risk assessment when we fully set-up the studio we are using to identify possible hazards that might occurs. We left out the location recce ideas/photo for later for when we start filming as we don’t have full access to the room yet as sometimes it’s being used.

Week 2 – Filming

PLANNED SCHEDULE

Day 1 – to start filming the first section of the production and to go over as many times needed to get a decent shoot. Finalise the first scene and to secure the files in a computer.

Day 2 – to continue filming from where we left off.

Day 3 – to finish all the filming needed.

BTEC Film & TV Depict Assignment WEEK SUMMARY

The time we allocated for filming was from the 7th November to 11th November. There were complications that we’ve encountered during the week. The first day of filming, one of our member (Joe) was absent, therefore, filming can’t proceed as he was the protagonist of the short film. Another problem was that we have unconfirmed casts as of this day.

On the second day, we filmed our first scene, however, we didn’t have the props needed such as the suit and the smoke machine. We couldn’t proceed to film the next section and the Friday block, the room we’re supposed to used was booked beforehand by someone else. To prevent on going over the allocated time for filming, we agreed to film in our lunch time, the following day. We plan to get all the filming done by this day as it’s the day where the room we need is booked for us to use.

Week 3 – Post-production + Editing

PLANNED SCHEDULE

Day 1 – to start post-production work such as editing and analysing the production.

Day 2 – to continue post-production work.

Day 3 – to finish and check thoroughly all the work needed including: pre-production paperwork and post-production work.

WEEK SUMMARY

The third week was supposed to be the editing week, however, a couple of scenes were need to be shoot along this week, therefore, we have shifted our schedule a bit to accommodate the filming due to costumes/props that hadn’t been brought. Also, due to some changes during the filming, we had to re-draw the storyboard.

We planned to do our editing throughout the week and will just add the scenes that’s needed to be filmed later on. We plan to finalise everything by the 18th November.

-1920s

-Gambling

-Gangsters/ Mobsters

Clarence (Joe) walks down a corridor and follows the muffled sound of 1920s mafia-style music to a mysterious door. He goes through it and finds himself in a 1920s shady poker room filled with smoke to represent the sheer amount smoked at that time. Inside there is a table with cards, and there are some gangster-style people sat around it gambling. Then, they ask Clarence to gamble with them and he wins, which is unheard of when playing against these gangsters, so they presume he is cheating which leads to him trying to escape. He gets out of the door and went back to his real world.

Drama Studio – this is the supposed room that we’re to use, however, the room was booked by other student.

W16 - this is the room we decided to use instead. It’s a smaller room than the drama studio which is more suitable for our production.

College corridor - we’ve used this for our first scene and our last scene.

“DODGY DEAL”

ACT ONE

FADE IN:

INT. COLLEGE CORRIDOR – W BLOCK - DAY

CAMERA IS LOCKED IN LONG SHOT POSITION CLARENCE walks through the college corridor and hear muffle music that’s coming from the door. He walks towards the door and opens it, he hears the sound clearer, he closes it again and the music becomes

muffled. He goes in through the door into the room.

Clarence’s gazes around the room and saw gamblers, he watches them for a second before approaching them. However, a BOUNCER stops his tracks from going in.

BOUNCER

Minimum buy in is 50k, chump.

CLARENCE

Will this do?

BOUNCER

Yeah, go ahead.

Clarence walks towards the empty seat and accommodate himself (GROUP SHOUT – MEDIUM SHOT,) he is surrounded by a couple of mobsters. The DEALER (DONNIE THE DEALER announces that Clarence should deal, he passes the card to Clarence.

DONNIE THE DEALER

New boy in, so you’re dealing first.

CLARENCE

But, I don’t know how to?

DONNIE THE DEALER

But you’re doing it anyway, mate.

Clarence takes the cards and starts shuffling it, however, he drops it in the process the KINGPIN speaks.

KINGPIN

Is this guy for real?

It’s not 52 cards, pick up!

MEDIUM SHOT Kingpin accuses Clarence of cheating.

KINGPIN

He has to be cheating.

Donnie grabs his gun and points it to him. Followed by the Dealers action, the mobsters grab their guns and point it at Clarence as well, making him stand up running for the door.

The surroundings turn back to normal once he gets out of the room.

Amendment: Kingpin’s dialogue was removed
