THE STORY OUTLINE4The camera is standing outside Mario’s pizza restaurant. A scooter comes by and the engine makes a loud noise. The camera moves into Mario’s restaurant, where he is standing behind his counter and greets us. Mario moves towards his oven, but then he smashes his head against the hanging lamp above the counter. He looks an-noyed and walks to his oven. At the oven he checks on the pizza he is baking. Mario walks back to his counter.

A moment later Guilia walks into his pizza restaurant. Mario greets her saying ‘Ciao bella!’ and falls in love with her. Guilia takes a seat and waits for Mario. Mario is so in love with her that he smashes his head against the lamp again. He rubs his head and realizes he forgot his pizza which is still in the oven! He runs towards his oven to check on the pizza. When he takes out his pizza a black cloud covers his face. His pizza has burned and is all black. Guilia starts laughing because of Mario’s black face. Because of her laugh Mario starts laughing too.

The camera moves out the restaurant and is standing in front of the restaurant again. The scooter comes by again and the engine creates a cloud. The cloud fades out and ‘The end’ appears behind the clouds.

A scooter drives by the pizzarestaurant and makes a loudnoise. The camera walks intoMario’s pizza restaurant. Thedoorbell rings and there’sItalian music playing in thebackground

INT. INSIDE RESTAURANT - 5SEC:

Mario is happy and greets uswhile he is standing behindhis counter. Mario movestowards his oven, but thenhe smashes his head againstthe hanging lamp above thecounter. He looks annoyed andwalks to his oven.

MARIOBon giorno!

INT. AT THE OVEN - 2 SEC:

At the oven Mario checks onthe pizza he is baking.

INT. AT THE COUNTER - 7 SEC:

Mario walks back to hiscounter. A moment laterGuilia walks into his pizzarestaurant. Mario greets herand falls in love with her.

MARIOCiao bella!

INT. AT THE TABLE - 2 SEC:

Guilia takes a seat and waitsfor Mario.

INT. AT THE COUNTER - 8 SEC:

Mario is so in love with herthat he smashes his headagainst the lamp again. Herubs his head and realizeshe forgot his pizza which isstill in the oven!

INT. AT THE OVEN - 6 SEC:

He runs towards his oven tocheck on the pizza. When hetakes out his pizza a blackcloud covers his face. Hispizza has burned and is allblack.INT. AT THE TABLE - 2 SEC:

Guilia starts laughingbecause Mario’s face is allblack because of the burnedpizza.

INT. AT THE COUNTER - 2 SEC:

Mario starts laughing too,because Guilia is laughing.He figures that a burnedpizza isn’t the biggestproblem and he rather laughswith Guilia.

EXT. OUTSIDE RESTAURANT - 8SEC:

The camera walks out of therestaurant while the doorbellrings again. When the camerais outside, the scooter comesby again and creates a cloudwith it’s engine. When thecloud fades out, ’The end’appears.

CONCEPT ARTWORK 11YOUTUBE INSPIRATIONBefore I started with the visuals I wanted to know what kind of design I would use for my charac-ters and backgrounds. Through YouTube I found two videos which I really liked, both flat design. After watching these videos I googled some pictures of flat design and I found out that this was the style I wanted to use for my video. I found inspiration for the characters and background by searching for flat design pictures.

CONCEPT ARTWORK12PIZZA RESTAURANTI started off by designing my restaurant. I found some really cool designs on the internet, which I combined and changed to get my own variant of a flat design pizza restaurant.

CONCEPT ARTWORK 13COUNTERI couldn’t find very good pictures of flat design counters, so I created my own. I searched for pizza counters and combined some of them to create my own. I added some decoration, like the wine rack, clock and menu card. The lamp has a very important role in the animation. This one had to be long enough so Maria would smash his head against it.

CONCEPT ARTWORK14COLOUR PALETTE AND OVENI created a colour palette where you can see the most used colours in the whole animation. I choose colours, a little darker than the regular colour shades.

For the oven I created arms to hold the shovel, two types of pizzas and the oven itself. I will only shoot the oven and the arms, that’s why I haven’t created the whole character from the back.

CONCEPT ARTWORK 15TABLEFor the table where Guilia is going to sit I created orange chairs, the orange from the colour scheme. I also created some decoration for on the table, like a wine bottle, wine glass and a menu card. These items won’t be moving in the animation, but are purely for decoration.

MODEL SHEETS16CHARACTER FRONTI created both characters from the front. Mario will be standing like this behind his counter. Guilia won’t be seen in front with her whole body, but only zoomed in.

MODEL SHEETS 17CHARACTER SIDEI also created both characters from the sides. Guilia will be walking into the restaurant from the right side to the left side. Mario will be walking to his oven and back to his counter.

MODEL SHEETS18FACE EXPRESSIONSI created all of the face expressions both characters will have during the animation. Mario has a lot more expressions, since he is the main character in the story. Guilia will only be smiling and laughing during the animation.
