Classroom Philosophy Our aim is to provide a happy, safe and nurturing environment in which children can explore, discover, learn and interact, across all developmental domains. We value early childhood education, as the foundation for lifelong learning and we believe that each child should have the opportunity to learn through multiple avenues. Our goal is to teach and learn through the use of play-based, authentic and co-operative learning experiences. We strive to develop a sense of belonging and connectedness for all children nurturing the will and drive to learn anywhere, at any time.

You Can Do It- Keys to Success At City Beach Primary School, our social and emotional program is underpinned by the You Can Do It Program. An essential part of this program are the You Can Do It - 5 Keys to Success which are: Getting Along, Confidence, Persistence, Organisation and Resilience. Getting along means being friendly and nice with classmates and adults, working well in groups, solving problems without fighting, following important school rules, and helping to make our school a better place to live and learn. Confidence means feeling I can do something well and be successful. It means not being afraid to make mistakes or to meet someone new. With confidence, you stand up tall and speak with a clear voice (not too loud, not too soft). Persistence means trying hard and continuing to do something that is difficult. It is not giving up when the task gets tough or when faced with setbacks. Organisation means setting a goal to do my best when I am learning something new. It means thinking ahead about the steps I must take to be successful in for this task. Organisation also means planning my time so that I’m not rushed and having all my supplies ready. Resilience means when faced with challenging situations being able to stop getting extremely angry, upset or worried. It is about controlling my behaviour when I am very upset by not fighting or running away and then calming down within a reasonable period of time. Being resilient means I can get back to work and play after a setback in my day.

City Beach Primary School Business Plan The School Business Plan 2018 – 2020 is available for the community to view via the school website. I will follow this plan in which all staff have been involved in developing. This way, we are all on the same page, working as a team to make our vision a reality to: ‘develop students’ capacity to become resilient, respectful and responsible learners who work towards

achieving their potential implementing consistent whole school approaches.

We promote our motto:

‘Achieving Together With Pride’

School Values Our Values are very important to us at City Beach Primary School. We promote The 3 R’s: Respect I am respectful. I treat the environment, others and myself as we deserve to be

treated.

Responsibility I am responsible. I do the things I am expected to do in an honest and dependable way.

Resilience I am resilient. I can learn from all my experiences with a confident mindset.

School Hours

Children are able to enter the room from 8.30am onwards, providing a teacher is present. Children are required to come in and complete their learning box. Each child has their own learning box that contains learning items/resources that your child needs to know. We encourage parents to complete your child’s learning box with them. The sounding of the school siren at 8.50am will signal time to pack away and say goodbye.

Every Child Matters, Every Moment Counts Attendance at school every day is very important. If your child misses just one day per fortnight or 20 days per year for vacations, then over 13 years of schooling that that equals missing about a year and a half of school. This is the equivalent to finishing school in Year 11. If your child will be away from school for any reason you can text the school on 0437 485 812. Please provide an explanation of the absence to the classroom teacher on your child’s return. Absences for extended holidays during the school term need to pre-approved by the Principal. We will notify you if your child becomes ill or is hurt at school. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home. We understand that they often still “want to come”, however, some germs are extremely friendly and are easily shared with other children and staff members. Parents will be notified if we have any infectious diseases in the room (chicken pox, etc.) or head lice (a good idea to check your child’s hair on a regular basis).

If you require your child to receive medication during school hours, a Health Care Authorisation form will need to be completed before a teacher can administer any medication. These forms are available from the front office.

If your child has Anaphylaxis and/or Asthma you will need to provide an action plan with a photo, signed by your doctor. The Deputy Principal will meet with you at the start of each year to update plans and medication.

What to Wear

Children wear the school uniform in Pre Primary and the school red bucket hat; all items are available for purchase at Jenny Franklin Enterprises, details can be found in the school newsletter and on the website, www.citybeachps.com.au .

Please mark all articles of clothing with your child's name. A spare set of clothing (including underwear) should be kept in their bag at all times, in case of a toileting accident or messy play.

The school has a ‘No Hat No Play’ policy which applies in Summer: December, January and February; Autumn: March April and May and Spring: September, October and November. Hats are optional in the Winter months of June, July and August, although we encourage all students to wear a hat all year round.

Appropriate footwear for children to participate in physical activities including sport and movement skills must be worn to school.

Food

Each child is to bring their own morning tea and lunch in their lunch box. A full water bottle is to be placed on the bench, inside the classroom, at the start of each day.

Children are encouraged to eat most of the food in their lunchbox. Uneaten food will be sent home.

Lunch orders can be made by the online canteen system. The canteen is open on Tuesday and Friday. Orders can be placed at www.quickcliq.com.au until 8:00am on Tuesday and Friday mornings. The canteen operates with the aid of volunteer parents and your assistance is welcome.

Packing a healthy and nutritious lunch for your child is extremely important. We encourage fruit, vegetables, popcorn, rice crackers, and cheese etc. for their morning tea and a healthy sandwich (or main lunch meal) and fruit/vegetables at lunch time.

Ideally students will only have one treat in their lunch box that they can eat after they have finished their other lunch items. Treats can include small muffins, cookies, their favourite fruit, a sweet yoghurt etc. Lollies, chocolates and potato chips are discouraged.

Nuts

Please do not send food containing nuts to school. No NUTS allowed.

Birthdays If your child has their birthday on a school day, please feel free to bring in treats for them to share with their classmates. Cupcakes or individual treats are ideal. Again, please be aware of allergies.

Crunch and Sip

Your child is encouraged to bring a small container of fruit, vegetables and/or crackers and cheese for a mid-morning snack during class time. This will also be placed on the bench, inside the classroom, at the beginning of each day. Remember this is in addition to morning tea.

Events Several events incursions and excursions will be planned for the school year. You will be advised of these on a term by term basis. Pre Primary students participate in:

swimming lessons in Term 4 each year;

school assemblies held on Friday mornings. Each class in the school is responsible for running an assembly and presenting an item.

Communication

Communication is extremely important. Please feel free to email any time and we will do our best to respond in a timely fashion. Please keep in mind that you may not get a quick response to emails sent in the evenings and weekends.

Our email addresses are: [email protected] and [email protected]

In 2019 we will be moving to Connect. If you have not yet set up your Connect account, please see the front office. A communication book is used to notify changes in pickup arrangements and known future absences. The book is kept on the windowsill near the entry of the classroom.

Parent Interviews

If you wish to discuss any matters regarding your child, please let us know and a time can be arranged.

Library Our class will visit the school library on a weekly basis. We ask that each child bring a waterproof library bag on our designated library day. Please ensure the book is in their bag the night before to be sure of return. Our Library day for 2019 is yet to be confirmed.

Parent Involvement You will have the opportunity to participate in classroom activities throughout the school year. Your help and contribution has an extremely positive impact on your child’s schooling. As a parent helper you will:

Provide individual and small group assistance;

Enable us to design more hands on, engaging and creative activities during each learning session; and

Improve the children’s communication skills and their support networks by providing them with the opportunity to talk to you and to get to know you.

Each week we ask for a family to assist us with our classroom laundry, which consists of washing and returning aprons, hand towels and tea towels.

Class Representatives Class representatives liaise between the class teacher and parents, they welcome new families and are representatives on the P&C. We will need two parent volunteers for this role. We look forward to meeting you and supporting your child to learn and grow at City Beach Primary School.
