Dear Parents,
We welcome children back to school after the Winter break. We
have started with semester-II with a lot of exciting learning en-
Week of 12th January 2015
Pre– Nursery Newsletter
Parth Rastogi ! We welcome you to our
class.
Learning engagements-
We started with the1st line of inquiry. Tuning in was done
by asking children how do they come to school? Children painted the mode of transport they travel to school, which
were later displayed on the display board. Children were
encouraged to think and tell about the different vehicles
seen on the road. To begin with, we talked about two
wheel vehicle such as Bicycle, Scooter and Motor-Bike.
Children were taken to the school parking-lot to see vari-
ous two wheelers. They learnt about different parts of ve-
hicles and the fuel they run on. We also talked about the
safety helmet. They identified the wheels of different ve-
hicles. We also talked about the modes of transportation
in the olden times and in the village where there are no
pucca roads. This lead to the usage of animal driven carts.
Learning was reinforced through power point presentation
and activity sheets. Children showed the reflection of their
learning by making play dough models of various 2 wheeler
vehicles. To make connection, we played a matching game
with association cards.
Literacy–
Letter C and its phonic sound was introduced through Jolly
Phonics. They also made an observation of the origin of the
phonic sound through mirror activity. Letter formation was
practised with play dough prior to writing. Stress was laid
on the phonic sound of ‘C’ and the letter recognition. Chil-
dren could tell words starting with phonic sound–C.
Pre-reading skills were enhanced through picture reading.
Listening and viewing skills were enhanced through picture
books, audio-visuals.
New Vocabulary– Unicycle, bicycle, tricycle, petrol pump,
inflate, deflate, air pump, number plate.
Rhymes: Wheels of the bus, Red red light what do you
say,
horsie horsie don’t you stop! driver gadi chala, lal peeli,
sadak bani hai lambi chauri, {H}.
Numeracy was integrated with the ongoing unit. Number
counting was done by touching and counting the wheels and
other parts of the vehicles. The shape of the wheel was
highlighted. To enhance their reasoning skill, Road was
drawn on the floor where they experimented to observe
that the wheels roll because they are round. A variety of
objects were tested to see whether they can roll or not.
They could reason out as well.
