ACADEMIC PROFILE OF A SUCCESSFUL STUDENT The Pre-Advanced International Certificate of Education (Pre-AICE) program at Pinellas Park Middle School is an academically rigorous program in which students participate in advanced or accelerated math, science, social studies and language arts courses. In addition, students in this program participate in required elective courses which may include technology, world language, or the arts. Students who typically do well in this program earn mostly As and Bs on their report cards, maintaining a 3.0 average and earn a level 3 or higher on their FSA mathematics and language arts assessments. Students new to Pinellas County Schools who do not have an FSA score, can look at their standardized test scores from their previous school to determine if they have at least a 5 stanine or a percentile rank of 42 or higher in both reading/language arts and mathematics. Once enrolled in the program, students must attend all classes regularly, maintain a C average in each class for each semester as well as abide by the Code of Student Conduct. Falling below these expectations may result in placement on probation and/or dismissal from the program. Magnet programs focus on a certain theme with specializedcurriculum in areas such as arts, communication, science andtechnology, and gifted studies. Some programs have eligibilityrequirements. Only students living in the middle school mid-county application area are eligible to apply to this program.

ABOUT USThe Cambridge Secondary 1 curriculum is an internationally recognized program of advanced studies administered and assessedby the world renowned University of Cambridge. Cambridge certification has been recognized for the past fifty years and valuedfor the high standards, lifelong skills and abilities developed by students in the program. Successful completion of the Cambridgeseries of courses is proof of a high quality education that encourages problem–solving and evaluation skills valued by theacademic world and by businesses in over 140 countries. In 2010, PPMS became the first middle school in Pinellas County to hostthe Cambridge Secondary I Programme. Students in the program are exposed to challenging and rigorous curriculum in English,Mathematics, and Science. Additionally, students also participate in project-based learning opportunities through Social Studies.The foundational skills developed in the Cambridge Secondary I Programme will help students grow throughout their education.

Cambridge teachers use a variety of instructional strategiesto help students succeed and become self-directed learners.Students will deepen their depth of knowledge by learninghow to analyze a variety of situations, participating in “handson” lab activities while completing project driven learningand the use of inquiry skills. Our curriculum focuses on threecore areas including language arts, mathematics and science.Students in the Programme will also study Social Studiesfrom a global perspective. Students will take advancedlanguage arts and reading in 6th grade moving ontoadvanced language arts in 7th grade. Our students acceleratetheir learning in the 8th grade by taking English 1 honors,which allows them to earn high school credit upon successful

completion. In mathematics students can take advanced oraccelerated 6th grade math with 7th graders taking Pre-Algebra or Algebra 1 honors followed by Algebra 1 honors orGeometry honors in the 8th grade. All students will takeaccelerated science in 6th and 7th grade as prerequisites forthe high school credit course, Integrated Science in the 8thgrade.Cambridge believes in growing well rounded studentssupporting the core academics with electives includingtechnology or Spanish. Many students will also be given anopportunity to experience coursework covering culinary arts,music, physical education and visual art. Several of ourelectives give students the option to earn high school credit.

Pinellas Park Middle School’s Cambridge Programmeprovides a clear pathway to high school success. Ouracademically relevant field trips to points of interest inand out of the Tampa Bay area give purpose to thestudents’ learning. Since 2016 Pinellas Park Middle School has adopted a“Dress for Success” program including a stricter ormodified dress code campus wide.
