The Federation of Canadian Artists was founded in 1941. It was to be a national organization that aimed to advance the growth of Canadian culture and provide recognition and professional standing of practising artists in each region of the country. There are currently twelve chapters across Cana-da and abroad with over 2000 members.
The Peace River Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists (PRCFCA) connects artists across the BC and Alberta Peace Region. There are 35 mem-bers of the PRCFCA and the Chapter welcomes new members.
“Peace Squared” is the third show of the PRCFCA. Its first show, “New Be-ginnings” was shown in Dawson Creek in the spring of 2011 and its second show “Peace Connections” was shown in Fort St. John in the spring of 2012.
The Chapter is excited about having its first show on the Alberta side of the border. It is deeply appreciative of the generous support it has received for each of its shows by ENCANA. The Chapter is encouraged and energized by the solid support it has received for this show from the local business community.
The level of support has made it possible to hold a workshop in conjunction with this show thereby helping the Chapter in meeting a number of core goals – establishing connections among artists and to keep them strong. Thank you Grande Prairie and region.

1TAKE A BOWPatricia PetersWatercolour, collage and stitch | 4.5 x 4.5 | $275
Happy memories of attending many dance recitals, sewing costumes and observing a sweet triumph, are playfully combined with waterco-lour, collage, and purple stitching. I try to work loosely to keep the work fresh and youthful.

2BACK ALLEYSandy TroudtCanvas | 16 x 16 | $500
Beauty can be found in the humblest of places.
3Honourable Mention
FRAgRANTAngela FehrWatercolour on paper | 13 x 13 | $500
Over the years painting florals has become for me more about evok-ing essence and emotion than recording detail. “Fragrant” is a sun-drenched, richly scented and tranquil early afternoon in summer; a white cotton dress and bare feet in cool grass.
NATuRE SPEAKSJudith TempletonCollograph oil base ink on BFK Rives | 3.5 x 3.5 | $250
When using plants and sepia in producing a collograph, I find the creative process and outcome speak of peace and tranquility.

quALiFYiNg98 STREETPenny Boden
Acrylic on wood | 20 x 20 | $400
The energy of the sun is both captured and radiated through a god-like
beauty; reaching from the ruins of a vacant city lot on 98 Street.
ROADSiDE TREASuREPenny BodenAcrylic on wood | 20 x 20 | $400
Sometimes, the mower is late, and the wildflowers dance, reminding those
who choose to believe… that weeds exist only in the eyes of the beholder.
gREEN gOLDPenny BodenAcrylic on wood | 20 x 20 | $400
The colours of a hot, dry summer radiate… but only if the eyes
choose to see them.
mOSquiTO gROvEPenny Boden
Acrylic on wood | 16 x 16 | $325
The woods are precious and are the heart and soul of our world.
To destroy them is both barbaric and suicidal.

iN THE LimE LigHTDarlene Dautel
Encaustic on wood | 12 x 12 | $625
This work depicts that magical ever-changing feeling in the garden.
This feeling of discovery is very similar to both encaustic painting and
our natural world. It is what draws me to them both.
THE PLACE TO BEPenny Boden
Acrylic on wood | 20 x 20 | $400
Not far from the noise and rush of the city, the backbone of our
world still exists a simple farm, that is still surrounded by woods.
JEWELS OF THE SuN 1Barbara DaleyMixed media | 12 x 12 | $250
Layers of luminous yellow pigments, sprinkled with jewel-like painted circles
of tissue, evoke for me radiant moments kissed by the sun. In appreciation
for the sun, and all things yellow, I work joyfully in mixed media.
TAKiNg iT BACKPenny BodenAcrylic on canvas | 16 x 16 | $325
Human presence is undeniable, but nature will refuse to give up, as long
as it is given a chance.

SOuLS CONNECTEDDarlene DautelWatercolour on paper | 13.5 x 13.5 | $525
This is the most personal painting I’ve ever done. It comes from a
realization of how fragile our worlds are. It speaks to that very inti-
mate, committed, safe, loving place that I think all of us look for but
few are lucky enough to find.
NOW SHOWiNgDarlene Dautel
Encaustic on wood | 20 x 20 | $975
It is the depth of colour in scenes like this that motivates me to
catch the passing of time and immense beauty that surrounds us.
SWALLOWED BY THE SEADarlene Dautel
Encaustic on wood | 20 x 20 | $225
Through strong colour and bold strokes, this piece encompasses
the strenth and power of the sea sweeping over Japan, 03/11/11,
and speaks equally to the compassionate, respectful and strong
way in which her people have carried on since.
gOLDEN TANgLEAngela FehrWatercolour on paper | 13.25 x 13.25 | $500
A summer’s life whirled gold in reckless abandon is traced in the tangled
lines of these sunflowers as they fade, spent, into fall.
9
BEACHEDSandy Troudt
Canvas | 20 x 20 | $600
A calm day on Williston Lake provided beachcombers with an
opportunity to find treasure amongst the driftwood.
SWEET SORROW 3mary ParslowStencil monoprint | 16 x 16 | $375
Shakespeare said “Parting is such sweet sorrow.” In this piece the
sweetness expresses the love one feels and the sorrow is the sadness of
being apart. This print shows this kind of a sweet sorrow dance.
BALEDSandy TroudtCanvas | 12 x 12 | $400
Nature’s fading colours herald a golden harvest.
quAiL ON RiCEPatricia Peters
Acrylic, collage, stitch on paper | 4 x 4 | $275
Humour is mixed in with a bit of collaged Japanese papers, purple
stitching, and acrylics. This piece shows the transparent possibilities
of acrylics. Working juicy and loose, underscore the playful attitude.

FiRST SNOWSandy Troudt
Canvas | 12 x 12 | $350
Frosty remnants of autumn peek through the light dusting of the first snowfall.
DREAmSCAPE 4Helen vokaty
Oil on canvas | 36 x 36 | $750
This piece is part of a series I call Dreamscapes – mining the sub-conscious
dream world we all experience, yet which remains largely mystical to us.
SEASPAN TRiPTYCH, EASTJeff WilsonAcrylic on canvas | 8 x 8 | $70
These three pieces depict the sulphur piles at the Seapsan Terminal in North Vancouver.
The sulphur is a by-product of oil and gas production in northeast BC and Alberta. The
piles are a real Vancouver landmark and have been there for years, but mysteriously have
always been the same size; never growing or shrinking…
PEACE RivER gLOWSandy TroudtCanvas | 20 x 20 | $600
Autumn colours linger in the light as the season draws to an end.
11
JEWELS OF THE SuN 2Barbara DaleyMixed media | 12 x 12 | $250
We in the Peace Country love the warmth and healing energy of the sun.
Working with rich yellow pigments, in translucent layers, I celebrate all
things yellow, adding a touch of jewel-like magenta.
RiSE iN gLORYBarbara DaleyMixed media | 3 x 3 | $150
Found poetry, watercolour, and Japanese paper, dance together in this tiny
collage, touched by whimsy and the light of a Peace Country late Autumn day.
10 Am - STiLL BREATHiNg - NOT TiED uP:)Darlene DautelWatercolour on paper | 13.5 x 13.5 | $525
This piece represents a very quick witted, yet hopeful text message between
friends. A reflection on the point-shoot-send, era we seem to live in. My
hope is that it gets you thinking and more importantly talking.
mARiTADarlene DautelWatercolour on paper | 15 x 15 | $525
I hope in “Marita” I have portrayed the fresh, uplifting, beautiful, free spirit
that she is, and that my feelings of love and pride shine through in this piece.

CONNECTiONJudith TempletonCollograph oil base ink on BFK Rives | 3.5 x 3.5 | $250
Multiple half circles leave the eye to fill in the full circle in a joining togeth-
er of harmony and joy.
STOP ASSADHelen vokatyOil on canvas | 36 x 36 | $550
The call is not to Assad to stop the slaughter of his people, as this is obvious-
ly not going to happen, but rather to the West to put a stop to this atrocity,
as well as to artists to put their skills toward speaking out about injustices in
the world, from international to local issues.
ALBERTA HEARTLANDJane KellyOil | 8 x 8 | $125
Travelling the back roads of Alberta I am drawn to the rolling rhythms and
repeating patterns of colour and texture. As always, Mother Nature has the
last say on the bounty of Alberta’s Heartland.
TWO LiTTLE BOATSSuzanne SandboeWatercolour on 300lb arches hot press | 12 x 12 | $675
I like the contrast of lights and darks, the shadows and bits of light on the
boats and rocks as the abandoned little boats lay along the rugged shoreline.
Makes me wonder if it was a good catch or if they are long forgotten by the
fishermen.

STRiviNgHelen vokatyAcrylic on canvas | 36 x 36 | $550
The full title is Striving to Embrace Imperfection, part of a series where I, as
an artist, am working to embrace spontaneity and its inherent imperfection,
and generally relinquish control of my piece to the process.
