“Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting. He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed,
shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.” - Psalm 126:5-6 (NASB95)
This week I read an article in the June 9, 2018 edition of World Magazine by Michael Cochrane. In his article Cochrane writes;
“Water-based pesticides have helped increase the world’s food supply, but farmers use a lot of them. The National Institutes of Health estimates 5.6 billion pounds of pesticides are used worldwide each year, with 1 billion pounds used in the United States alone. The problem is that very little of the applied pesticide stays on the plant. Much of it runs off and leaches into groundwater or is blown away by the wind, polluting the environment.”
“A 27-year-old graduate student from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has found a solution to this problem: He’s invented a way of making pesticides stickier, so farmers can use far less.”
“A lot of plants are what we call hydrophobic, or water-repelling,” Maher Damak, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, told Fast Company. “Pesticides are mostly water-based, so when it’s sprayed onto plants, droplets either bounce or roll off the surface. This is not visible to the naked eye—it happens in about 20 milliseconds.”
“Damak’s organic and biodegradable technology uses electrically charged polymers to make the water droplets containing the chemicals more attractive.” According to Damak, farmers who normally use 50 to 100 gallons of chemical might be able to use as little as 10 gallons per acre with a new generation of “sticky” pesticides. That would provide an incredible savings to the farmer and a very positive benefit for the environment. And all because someone invented a way to make a pesticide more sticky. Reading this article led me to ask this question. Is there anything we can do to help the Gospel stick better to the hearts of the lost? In Luke 8:11-15 (NASB95) Jesus interprets the Parable of the Soils and says in verse 15; “But the seed in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold it fast, and bear fruit with perseverance.” Did you catch those words, “and hold it fast”? That’s a powerful image of the Gospel being sown and then “sticking”! There is no question, we need to do a better job of applying the Gospel to a lost and dying world. We must do all that we can to help the Gospel stick in the minds and hearts of those who hear it. But how? Here are some suggestions. 1) Read the Bible daily and develop a good personal
understanding of the Gospel. 2) Then develop a clear and concise presentation of the
Gospel you can share with others. 3) Pray for the Holy Spirit to go before you and penetrate
the hearts of those who need to hear the Gospel. 4) Tell the lost what Jesus has done for you and what
Jesus can do for them. 5) Invite them to repent of their sins and put their faith in
Jesus Christ today. Let us never forget that we are called to sow the seeds of the Gospel. May we sow faithfully and pray that the Holy Spirit will make that seed stick and grow.

MISSIONS MINISTRY
Every Thursday 11:30—12:30
Be here at 11:15 to help!
The Junction Church (the
church plant in Calgary Canada we
help sponsor) has an immediate
need for a vehicle. As we have
shared with you before this church
meets in the neighborhood’s
community center each week. They
do not have a building, therefore all
of the stuff they need to have a church service has to be stored
in a truck or trailer until Sunday and then put in the community
center. They have been using a van and trailer but their van has
died. They need a new vehicle. They would like to sell the trailer
and buy a 16 foot box truck. They are looking at used box
trucks and depending on mileage they cost anywhere from
$35,000.00 to $50,000.00.
The Missions Committee would like for us as a church to help
them purchase the truck they need. Maybe we could help them
purchase a new truck. We will be collecting an offering for the
truck through the end of June. If you would like to give, mark it
Canada Truck. Of course, you can give through the offering
plate or online. Thank you for helping us be a blessing to our
sister church!
Summer TrueLife cards are out!
