World Marriage Day!This year we will recognize all couples who have a milestone wedding anniversary in 2017 & 2018. Starting with 10 years, then at 5-year intervals, (15, 20, 25, etc.) The priest will hand out the certificates at the Mass of the couple’s choice on February 10 or 11, 2018. Jan. 20-21 - Third Sunday in Ordinary TimeThis Sunday we hear Jesus first proclaim the Good News that the kingdom of God is at hand. As he began this ministry, he called a community to accompany and assist him, but they needed to leave their old lives behind. As we grow in discipleship, what is it that we need to leave behind in order to follow Jesus more fully? Are there attitudes or actions that are not in keeping with the kingdom values of Jesus that we need to abandon? The world and our culture cling to prejudices, racism, individualism, materialism and consumerism. Whose ways are we following, the ways of Jesus or the ways of the world?

Confirmation Service Day - On Saturday January 27, 2018 we will be serving our parish by cleaning our facilities and campus. We will work from 8 am to noon. If you have any questions or would like to sign up, contact the RE Office.

• • • • • • • • • • •Reconciliation Workshop for First Communion Students - On Janu-ary 29th and January 31st we will host our Reconciliation Workshop for First Communion Students. All students have been assigned their day to attend. Please check your First Communion Guidelines for more information or contact the RE Office. This workshop is required for all children who are preparing to celebrate their First Communion this May. A parent/guardian must attend with them. No siblings, please make childcare arrangements for younger siblings.

Are you wanting to learn more about our faith? Are you just sitting in your car waiting for your kids to get out of religious education classes? Take that leap of faith because we have something for you. Classes will be offered on Wednesday evenings at 6:45 p.m. in English with Anna Lara in the Knights of Columbus room (PAC301) and in Spanish with Art Lara in room 208 in the Education building.
On Sundays, we will have a Spanish session at 9:45 a.m. in room 208 of the Education Building.
This is open to everyone come join us for this year’s Adult Faith Formation Pro-gram. Classes will follow the RE calendar for the year. For more information please contact the RE Office.

Adult Faith Sacramental Sessions will be of-fered on Mondays starting: January 22, 2018. These sessions run from 6:30-8:00 pm for 10 weeks. These sacramental preparation classes are for adults who have already celebrated the sacrament of Baptism in the Catholic church and who wish to celebrate the Sacraments of First Communion and/or Confirmation. If you are interested in participating in these 10- week sessions please contact the RE Office at 512-312-2520 ext. 137, to register.

LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR/CARTA DE NUESTRO PARROCO
Dear parishioners,Four Sundays remain until the season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 14.
The Gospel readings that we will hear serve to provide an excellent preparation for this holy season. We will follow in four consecutive Sundays the first chapter of the Gospel of Mark from verse fourteen to the end of the chapter. The events that take place after the Temptations in the Wilderness reserved for the first Sunday of Lent is the call of the first disciples who are Peter, James and John followed by the cure of a man with an unclean spirit. This chapter continues with the cure of Simon’s mother-in-law who is sick with a fever and followed by the healing of a person with leprosy.
We can see that the first actions of Jesus in his public ministry are to bring healing to persons and these are signs of his power as God. The healings that Jesus performs take root in the soul of the person, and each of the healings contains a unique response that is interesting to consider.
The cure of the man with an unclean spirit provokes a response on the part of the disciples of amazement. Immediately after Simon’s mother-in-law is cured she begins to serve Jesus and the disciples. And, the person with leprosy goes forth to speak openly about his cure to everyone.
With these reflections in mind, we can prepare for the holy season of Lent by renewing our personal commitment as the disciples of Our Lord. We can then live out our discipleship in amazement and service and willingness to share the goodness of God’s love to everyone around us.

Seguiremos en cuatro domingos consecutivos el primer capítulo del Evangelio de Marcos desde el versículo catorce hasta el final del capítulo. Los acontecimientos que se llevan a cabo después de las Tentaciones en el Desierto reservados para el primer Domingo de Cuaresma es el llamado a los primeros discípulos que son Pedro, Santiago y Juan seguido por la sanación de un hombre con un espíritu impuro. Este capítulo continúa con la sanación de la suegra de Simón que está enferma de fiebre y luego por la sanación de una persona con lepra.
Podemos ver que las primeras acciones de Jesús en su ministerio público son las de traer sanación a las personas y estas son señales de Su poder como Dios. Las sanaciones que Jesús realiza se arraigan en el alma de la persona, y cada una de las curaciones contiene una respuesta única que es interesante el considerarla.
La curación del hombre con un espíritu impuro provoca una respuesta por parte de los discípulos de asombro. Inmediatamente después de que la suegra de Simón se sana, comienza a servir a Jesús y a los discípulos. Y, la persona con lepra sale a hablar abiertamente acerca de su sanación a todo el mundo.
Con estas reflexiones en mente, podemos prepararnos para la Santa temporada de la Cuaresma renovando nuestro compromiso personal como los discípulos de nuestro Señor. Podemos entonces vivir nuestro discipulado con servicio, asombro y con la disposición de compartir la bondad del amor de Dios con todos los que nos rodean.
