A N EW ALABAMA P ARTNERSHIP
Pastor Lucas was like the Pied Piper as the children of LasBrisas followed him from houseto house on the rocky trails of this impoverished communitynear the Salvadoran border.Over and over we were asked,
“Can you visit my house too?”
Pastor Lucas and the people of La Iglesia Bautista Tabernáculoin Jutiapa have been going toLas Brisas for several months. For them, reaching these fami-lies with the Gospel is their Great Commission responsibility.
We were there with a Vision Team from the Elmore Baptist Asso-ciation, Wetumpka, Alabama, to lay the groundwork for a part-
nership to bring the Gospel to thepeople of Las Brisas and nearbycommunities. This mission-
minded association will be sen-
ding two teams for ministry befo-re the end of the year as theyinitiate this partnership. We arethankful for Associational Missio-naries like Dr. Jim Jackson whoare leading their associations of
Baptist churches to embrace theGreat Commission to go to theends of the earth.
Thanks for praying for us as we work together in this new part-nership to bring the Gospel to the families of Las Brisas.
Unexpected Challenges From Within
We expect challenges to come from without. Occasionally, weare blindsided by unexpected challenges from within. Such isthe case in our work to bring the Gospel to the unreached village of Chancó.
For almost a year, a local Christian family has hosted PastoRolando as he has conducted Bible studies in Chancó. Thoughthey are not Baptists, they were gracious to let us have Biblestudies on their porch and to give the pastor a place to sleep fothe night.
Recently, Pastor Rolando was told by the head of this familythat they will no longer host theBaptist meetings. The reason:they have been led to believe byleaders of their church that Bap-tists do not believe in the HolySpirit because we do not speak intongues and have experienceslike being “slain in the Spirit.” Thisis not the first time we have en-countered this attitude from those
we call our brothers in Christ.
While we are grieved by this response, we are receiving it as anopportunity to relocate the Bible studies to a more neutral location as we seek to plant a church in Chancó. At this point, we donot have a location so we ask you to pray with us as we search.
Pastor Rolando has traveled to this home for the Bible study foalmost a year. Since he lives over an hour away from Chancóand his only method of transportation is a motorcycle or a bushe goes on Thursday afternoon to this remote mountain villageand spends the night. This family has been the core of atten-ders for the Bible study, so he must build a new Bible studyfrom the start. You can imagine that he is discouraged aftehaving invested in this work for a year. Please pray for him tha
he will not grow weary in well doing and that he will reap as herefuses to surrender to this disappointment.

cating the partnership to the Lord.

You gave $149,276,303.72 to the 2012 Lottie Moon ChristmasOffering for International Missions, making this the third largestoffering in our history. Thank you for making it possible for us toserve as your IMB missionaries through your continued giving tothe Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon Offering.
While financial support is vital, your prayers for us are even moreimportant. IMB President Dr. Tom Ellif recently said,
“How could we dare send out these missionaries without cov- ering them with a furnace blast of prayer?”
