Welcome to ICC Nairobi’s month of

Prayer and Fasting. As a church, we

have set aside this time because we

believe that according to the Bible,

there are three duties of every Christian:

Give, Pray and Fast.

Biblical fasting takes a lot of discipline and

strength—strength which you can only

receive from God. This private

discipline will bring you public rewards

according to Matthew 6:5-18..

What is Fasting?

When should i fast?


Simply stated, Biblical fasting is refrainingfrom food for a spiritual purpose.

• When you are in need of a miracle. Jehoshaphat led his

people in prayer and fasting seeking for God’s intervention

(2 Cron. 20:3-4).

• When you need the tender touch of God in your life.

• In repentance. The people of Nineveh prayed and fasted as

they repented of their sins to show real remorse (Jon. 3:10).

• When there’s a dream inside you that only He can make

possible.

• To seek deliverance or protection. Ezra called for corporate

prayer and fasting before the exiles set o� to Jerusalem

from Babylon (Ezra 8:21-23).

• When you are in need of a fresh encounter with God.

• When you desire a deeper, more intimate and powerful

relationship with the Lord.

• When you are ready to have heightened sensitivity to the

desires of God.

• When you need to break away from bondages that have

been holding you hostage (Isa. 58:6).

• When contending for the soul of a loved one

• To show grief over a situation. Nehemiah prayed and fasted

when he learnt of the broken walls of Jerusalem (Neh.

1:1-4).

• To seek God’s wisdom. Paul and Barnabas prayed and

fasted before commiting the elders of the Churches in

Iconium, Lystra, and Antioch (Acts 14:23).

• Fasting prepares you to do what God has in store for you.

Jesus spent 40 days and 40 nights praying and fasting before

He began His ministry (Matt. 4:1-17).

• When waiting for the fulfilment of God’s promise in your

life. Anna and Simeon fasted waiting for the promise of God

(Luke 1:22-38).

Types of Fast


It is advised that you take into consideration the state of your healthwhen making the decision on what type of fast you want to do.

1. Partial fast.

In this case, one refrains from certain foods or

omits certain meals to spent time in prayer. Daniel, for

example, omited all other foods apart from vegetables and

water.

Under partial fast one can choose to do only fluids, or do

one meal daily, or do fruits and vegetables only.

2. Absolute fast/full fast/dry fast.

In this case, you take no water nor food. Paul did this fast in Acts 9:9;

Esther and the Jews also did it (Est. 4:15-16). It is usually not for so long for

health purposes.

It is advised that you take into consideration the state of your

health when making the decision on what type of fast you want to do.

How to BeginStart with a clear goal. Be specific. Why are you fasting? Do you need direction,

healing, restoration of marriage or family issues? Are you facing financial di�cul-

ties? Ask the Holy Spirit for guidance.

Pray daily and read the Bible. As a church, we will give guidelines on what we are

praying for daily as a corporate. Be faithful to pray for these corporate needs but

feel free to pray as the Holy Spirit leads you at a personal level.

What to ExpectWhen you fast your body detoxifies, eliminating toxins from your system. This can

cause mild discomfort such as headaches and irritability during withdrawal from

ca�eine and sugars. And naturally, you will have hunger pains. Limit your activity

and exercise moderately. Take time to rest. Fasting brings about miraculous results.

You are following Jesus' example when you fast. Spend time listening to praise and

worship. Pray as often as you can throughout the day. Get away from the normal

distractions as much as possible and keep your heart and mind set on seeking God's

face. If on medication, nursing or expectant kindly refrain from fasting but take time

to pray.

How to EndDon't overeat when the time comes to end your fast. Begin eating solid food

gradually; eat small portions or snacks.

T H E N E E D F O R C O N S E C R A T I O N

It precedes the move of God and keeps

it alive. (Josh.3:1; Genesis 35:1-5)

It calls for total devotion, total

surrender to the Lordship of Jesus.

God is not asking us to do great

things for Him, rather to consecrate

ourselves daily, the great things

will naturally follow.

MON6TH JAN

THE NEEDFOR CONSECRATION


• Commit yourself to God afresh.

• Pray that you will be a true disciple of Jesus Christ, denying your

self and carrying the Cross daily.

• Pray that you will walk in submission, surrender, and total obedi

ence to Christ.

• Pray that you will be His hands and feet.

• Pray that you will be willing to GO (Isaiah 6:8; Matthew 28:18-20).

• Pray that you will be committed to a lifestyle of prayer, Bible study,

worship, and evangelism.

(Note: make a commitment to do something in each of these areas

that you have never done, for example, read through the entire Bible).

• Pray for the desire to understand the purposes of God for you,

your family, His Church, and Kenya in this season.

• Pray for a continuous desire to know the heart of God and His

character.

• Pray for a discerning heart to know what is the specific assign

ment for you in this season.

• Ask the Lord to help your prayer life to be centred around this

specific assignment.

• Pray that God will not give you peace until you align to His

assignment for you.

• Pray for grace to go ALL OUT to fulfil this specific assignment

with the urgency and precision it demands.

• Pray that you will be filled with the joy of knowing that the

gracious hand of God is upon you.

WED8TH JAN

NEHEMIAH2 & 3


• Pray that as you do your part, God will raise every believer to

take up their rightful positions in this work.

• Pray specifically that believers both in the market place and

church ministry will rise up.

• Pray for destiny helpers for you and every believer.

• Pray for grace for yourself and every believer to be submitted to

the process of preparation.

• Pray for such unity and coordination among believers as they

rise up to connect with God’s purposes in this season (Neh.

4:19).

• Pray for the spirit of revelation and wisdom upon yourself and

every believer to guard what God is doing.

• Pray for the feeble knees and limp arms of believers to be

strengthened.

• Pray for believers to have the grace to withstand opposition from

the enemy.

• Pray for believers to have the grace to remain people of prayer.

having their eyes fixed on God amidst challenges (v. 4).

• Pray that believers will work with all their hearts (v. 6).

• Pray for the church to position spiritual guards (praying teams) in

place day and night (v. 9, 12, 16, 21, 22, 23).

• Pray for the church to be sensitive to remove any rubble, anything

that would drain both spiritual and physical strength (v. 10) to the

end.

• Pray for grace to remain faithful to God’s calling

• Pray for spiritual leadership to be an encouragement to believers

who are involved in kingdom business (v. 14).

• Pray that as believers we shall be sensitive about the physical needs

of others in our midst (Acts 2:42-46).

• Pray that as a church we shall break the bonds of slavery in our

midst and society (Isaiah 58).

• Pray that the church will not bring reproach to the Name of the Lord

by living in sin.

• Pray that the church will be sensitive to the social injustices in soci

ety and be a voice of hope.

• Pray that the political leadership in this country will not lord it over

the citizens.

• Pray that there will be no gaps as we pursue God’s purposes (v. 1).

• Pray against distractions, discouragements, fear, intimidation, and all

manner of deceptions (v. 2-12).

• Pray against compromise (v.13).

• Pray against character assassination of God’s people especially

spiritual leaders (v. 13).

• Pray that God will indeed strengthen His people (v. 9).

• Pray for the revelation that we are co-workers together with God (v.

16).

• Pray for spiritual leaders to train believers for the work of the

ministry (Eph. 4:11).

• Pray that those appointed in church and political leadership will

be people of integrity and who fear God (v. 2).

• Pray that believers will operate in their gifting and serve the Body

of Christ and the market place (v. 3).

• Pray for structures within the church that would encourage

growth and accountability.

• Pray for systems that would help the church do proper follow up

of every member (v. 4-73).

• Pray for the church to have systems and programs to grow and

multiply believers (v. 4-73).

• Pray that spiritual leadership will rightfully divide the Word of

truth (v.7-8).

• Pray that there shall be joy in the house of God even as people

serve (v.10-12).

• Pray that husbands will take their rightful place at the family altar

(v.13).

• Pray that like the sons of Issachar husbands will understand the

purpose of God for their families and walk in obedience (v. 14-16).

• Take time to repent for yourself, ICC Nairobi, KAG, and the church

in Kenya (1-4, 16-36).

• Take time to repent on behalf of our political leaders (v. 32-34).

• Pray for a spirit of true praise and worship in the church (v. 5-13).

• Pray that as individuals, families, the church and a nation, we shall

be committed to honouring God (v. 18; 10:1-29).

• Pray that parents will take care of their children and raise them in

the ways of the Lord (v. 30).

• Pray that as a people we shall honour the Sabbath, we shall take

rest and spending time with God seriously (v. 31).

• Pray that as a church we shall give generously to the work of God

(v. 32-39).

• Pray that as people give God will increase them (jobs, businesses).

• Pray that there shall be provision beyond our wildest dreams as a

church and denomination.

• Pray that God will give wisdom to our spiritual leaders in assigning.

souls and multiplication of disciples (12:27).

• Pray that all departments will be part of this celebration (v. 43).

• Pray for proper stewardship over the harvest (v. 44).

• Pray for the right neighbourhoods.

• Pray for the right help in their houses.

• Pray for passion that stops at nothing less than fulfilling God’s

• Pray for wisdom upon ICC Nairobi leadership to take each of the

church plants at their paces.

• Pray for a God ordained and maintained relationship between the

church plants and ICC Nairobi leadership.

• Pray for provision upon the mother church to be able to support the

needs of the church plants.

• Pray for transparency and accountability between the two

• Pray for manageable expectations on both ends.

• Pray that church plants will honour the spiritual authority of the

mother church (1 Pet. 5:4).

• Pray against strive and misunderstandings.

• Pray that each church plant will get a strategy that connects with its

context.

counsel of God without fear or compromise.

• Pray that these pastors will keep watch over God’s flock (1

Pet.5:1-4).

• Pray that they will guard themselves against anything that would

compromise their testimony (Prov. 4:23).

• Pray that they will be totally surrendered to God and the Word of

grace.

• Pray that they will work hard.

• Pray that they will have a heart for the weak.

• Pray that they will be good examples to the new believers.

• Pray that they will labour with great humility and brokenness.

• Pray that they will be ALL OUT and ALL IN to the task ahead of

them.

• Pray that the pastors will desire to operate fully under the anointing

of the Holy Spirit.

• Pray that their greatest desire will be to fulfil the calling of God over

their lives in those cities, not their own bidding or someone else’s.

• Pray for courage to stand against all manner of oppositions espe

cially witchcraft and territorial spirits.

• Pray for wisdom to reach to di�erent groups of people where they

are at without compromising the message (1 Cor. 9:22).

• Pray that they will be in step with the Holy Spirit.

• Pray that they will have discerning hearts to know which doors God

has opened and which ones He has shut.

• Pray for the demonstration of the power of God in the lives of these

pastors (Mark 16:15-17).

• Pray for the joy of ministry upon the pastors despite the challenges.

• Pray for a stirring of people’s hearts to be part of the six church

plants.

• Pray for those who need to relocate to say yes to the Lord.

• Pray for those who may need to leave the market place to join

church sta� to do so.

• Pray for those who may need to release property or specific

giving to the church plants to do so.

• Pray for realignment and repositioning of believers to support

the ALL IN strategy.

• Pray for provision for the dream centre and the church plants.

• Pray that many people in the said cities will respond to the message.

• Pray that the Word of the Lord will spread across many regions.

• Pray that these believers will give generously to the work of God.

• Pray that the believers will be committed to public worship and

house to house (small group) fellowships (Acts 4:44).

• Pray that they will give of themselves fully to build the work of the

ministry.

• Pray that they will be light and salt in their cities.

• Pray for a divine connection between them and their pastors.
