As Pratyangira energy manifests, it’s often a very swift and sometimes ferocious current. Many of the Saints who’ve seen it’s energetic expression have described it as half lion and half human. The lion head is that of a male and the body is that of a female, representing the union of Shiva and Shakti. In her full form, she is humongous, with 1008 heads (symbolically representing the 1008-petalled Sahasrara Chakra, the universal chakra of the cosmic energy) and 2016 hands, riding majestically on a chariot pulled by 4 lions (representing the 4 Vedas), carrying many swords for removing obstacles. The jaws of so many lions makes it very powerful for destroying negative karmas, and a great blessing for anyone on a spiritual path. However, such a current can be understandably rough, so it’s wise to approach with respect and some consideration of what our heart is asking for. TRANSCRIPT

The Pratyangira aspect of the Divine has been a bit of a secret for most of these past ages. Many believed that direct experience with this energy was reserved for Saints and Rishis. Seeing Pratyangira in any form was considered an enormous blessing, and an indication that you were in similar company.

Pratyangira comes from a deep, deep place within the Divine Mother; an area simply known as the Void. In the Void there are no thoughts of fear, or pain, or loss, or want, or time, or even space just the warmth of the Mothers love.

As Pratyangira energy manifests, its often a very swift and sometimes ferocious current. Many of the Saints whove seen its energetic expression have described it as half lion and half human. The lion head is that of a male and the body is that of a female, representing the union of Shiva and Shakti. In her full form, she is humongous, with 1008 heads (symbolically

representing the 1008-petalled Sahasrara Chakra, the universal chakra of the cosmic energy) and 2016 hands, riding majestically on a chariot pulled by 4 lions (representing the 4 Vedas), carrying many swords for removing obstacles. The jaws of so many lions makes it very powerful for destroying

negative karmas, and a great blessing for anyone on a spiritual path. However, such a current can be understandably rough, so its wise to approach with respect and some consideration of what our heart is asking for.

Two Rishis in the ancient times, Pratyangira and Angiras, in their deep meditation, discovered this goddess through her Moola Mantra in the ethereal waves of the sound current. And though this Mother is nameless, she honored these Rishis by giving the blessings to be named after them. She has hence

been known as Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi. The beejaksharam (seed letter) of her Mantra is ksham (bliss).

Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi is all powerful and secretly protects devotees and others. She is always by the side of Her devotees. She is within each and every being in all planes of existence, and there to be awakened within.

An awareness of Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi has been only quietly known, until recently. Although the Siddha Masters and great Maha Rishis like Sri Dhurvasha Munivar and Puli Paani Siddhar have been devotees of this mother.

It is in that line of great devotion that Amma and Swami are servants to this Mother.

The Goddess's alternative name is Atharvana Bhadrakali, identified in the Atharvaveda with Kali.

[edit]Mythology

As told in Markandeya Purana: In the beginning of the Satya yuga, the Lord Narasimha, an avatar of Vishnu, killed the unruly King Hiranyakashipu by tearing up his body and drinking his blood. Because of the anger in Hiranyakashipu's body and the malicious effects of human blood, Narasimha was drunk on rage and could not be stopped. To calm him down with the power of compassion, Lord Shiva came down as Sarabeswara, a bird-animal-human hybrid. Upon seeing this, Lord Narasimha created Ganda-Berunda, a two headed-bird that was Sarabeswara's opposite. Upon seeing this, Sarabeshwara turned into Bhairava (Shiva's fierce form) and created Goddesses Pratyangira from his third eye. Prathyangira ate the bird, displaying rage the like of which the gods had never seen before. They praised her as she calmed Narasimha down by sitting on his lap.

[edit]In Hindu Epics

Prathyangira is also mentioned in the Hindu epic Ramayana. Indrajit was performing "Nikumbala yaga" (a sacred ritual to worship Prathyangira) while Rama and his soldiers were waging war in Sri Lanka. Hanuman came down to stop this ritual because he knew that if Indrajit completed it, he would become invincible.

[edit]In Lalitha Sahasranama

In the Lalita Sahasranama, the title "Maha Bhairava Poojitha" is identified with Prathyangira. She was also called "Bhairava pathni", (wife of Bhairava). Another one of her names is "Daksha yagna vinasini", "the goddess who destroyed Daksha's sacrifice".The immaculate genesis of the Goddess"The panchaputhas"work inherently since its genesis ceaselessly with biota and abiota elements on this biosphere. They carry all the messages from the tiniest to universe full magnification from all the yugas.Avathars, Siddhars and Rishisperformed yagam to destroy the evil / bad elements and protected the human and the earth onSatyayuga, Trethayuga and Dvaparayuga and Kaliyuga. In thisKaliyuga(the last yuga as per Hindu mythology)knowingly and unknowingly human enjoy sensual pleasures and invite good or bad elements as per karmic load.Believe or not the karma can only be dispelled by intense internal prayers either by reciting the"pranava", theOMor the"sakthi"theAUM; and at the merge both are one the same.

In the beginning of Satyayuga theLord "Narashima"-the avatar of VISHNUkilled the unruly kingHiranyakashibuby tearing the body tissues and tasting the blood. By the anger in the body and malicious effects of human blood the Narashima Avatar of Lord Vishnu had forgotten His spirituality and suffered by"Hyper of Rajho Character".To bestow compassion,Lord Shivacame as"Sarabeshwar(Antaranda Pakshii)Avatar"in combination form of bird, animal and human with huge eagle wings, yaali face, eagle nose with eight legs(scientifically refereed as the manifestation of all gene - pools to show the fact that the all pervasive Lord is existing in forms of living or non-living matters)so as to rekindle the Lord Narashima who is also the part and parcel of the Universe.

By this act,a new uncomparable miraculous power(sakthi)was created by Sri Sarabeswar with all"panchaputhas"- hence, the genesis of new sakthi - which was referred asSri Prathyangiraa Devi.PanchaputheswaramIn Sivaganga District of Tamil Nadu, near vediyarendal vilakku at Mana Madurai, the present locationPanchabutheswaramwas referred asVaanara Veera Maduraiafter the battle between Rama and Ravana, theAnjeneya and his troops had a huge honey retreat by the grace of Lord Shiva; askeesana MaduraiduringTrethayuga; and asvilavanam(vilvam = Agele marmelos trees)during Kaliyuga. The temples in and around Mana-Madurai was established by theking Thulakannanin the mid of the Kaliyuka. On hearing the unbelievable psychic words from heaven about the collapsed temple previously constructed by moon (chandran), the king Thulakannan re-established the temple asAanandhavalliamman - Someshwar temple; about a five kilometers away from'Panchaputheswaram'(Source: Vanara Veera Madurai Puranam published by the Department of Archeology, Tamil Nadu).lack magic is the negative use of energies and power by jealous and malicious human beings whose main objective is to harm others from something or influence them to do something wrong or negative. It is the evil side of the celestial cycle or negative energies. Black magic can be used to harm or hurt another person by performing certain type of tantric rituals even at a far away place. This is generally done with the increase of jealousy, frustration, greed, selfishness, negativity, etc. This problem has increased a lot in the last few years and many are suffering all over the world totally unaware of it.

Mantra:

Mananaath traayathe ithi mantraha. By repeating by which a person crosses all the bondages and barriers is called mantra.

It expresses various moods of the internal self. The person who repeats this will get the concrete form of the mantra that is moorthi. The person becomes one with the devata (diety).

How mantra is used:

The mantras are used in six techniques called shatkarma.

1. Shanthi - to subside.

If a person becomes the victim of shanthi karma, he will be completely mentally and physically weak.

2. Vashya - to attract.

If a person becomes the victim of vashya karma, he will be attracted to a particular object even if he does not desire it.

3. Sthambhana - to stop.

A person who is a victim of sthambhana karma will stop all his activities internal like digestion, etc and external like movement, etc.

4. Vidhveshana - to separate.

A person who is a victim of vidhveshana karma will have complete misunderstanding with his desired object.

5. Ucchatana - to send away.

A person who is a victim of Ucchatana karma will not be able to think about a particular thing constantly or to stay in one place constantly.

6. Maarana - to destroy

A person who is a victim of Maarana karma will be fully destroyed mentally or physically.

What happens when one person uses these karmaas on some other people.

1. He will be able to separate wife and husband or friends or business partners.

2. He can kill or make mentally disabled anybody he wants but no one can identify how it happened.

3. He can stop ones business or completely ruin health. If you identify any of these things without any reason, then following are the remedies:

Those diseases even cannot be identified by specialists.

The same science which has invented all these destroying karmaas has the protecting remedies also that is called Pratyangira vidya. There are two words in sanskrit, prathyang and paraang.

1. Paraang - means outward or negative.

2. Prathyang - means inward or positive.

Pratyangira vidya means use the mantra devata or diety to destroy all evil activities and the spirit.Sree Maha Pratyangira Devi is one of the forms of Goddess Shakti imagined with four hands, dark complexion (Kali), ferocious lion's face with a female body, dark red colored eyes similar to a bright sun. She holds a trident, a hand-drum, a serpent and a skull in each of her hands.

Legends behind birth of Pratyangira Devi:

Lord Narasimha (one of Vishnu's form) after killing Hiranyakshayap was in a ferocious mood, which trembled all the worlds. Devatas approached Lord Shiva, requested Him to pacify Narasimha. So, Shiva took the form of Sharabeshwara (Sharabha is a bird with two huge wings and a human body); The two huge wings of Sharabha are Shoolini Devi and Pratyangira Devi.

Sharabha and Shoolini failed to pacify Ugra Narasimha. Then Pratyangira took the Female form of Narasimha from the other wing of Sharabha. She had lioness face with female body, believed to be Lakshmi devi in tantric form also known as Narasimhi.

Another legend:

Two great sages - Pratyangira and Angiras performed deep meditation; They discovered a great goddess by reciting mantra. She honored these rishis to name her after theirs - Pratyangira.

Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi is a powerful Devi who is said to have destroyed Sarabheswara's arrogance. Sarabheswara is a ugra avatar of Siva. She is also known as Narasimhika [ in Kalisahasranama Stotram] : She who is the Ferocious Half Human Half Lion of Courage. It is said that when Narashimhika shake her Lion's Mane, she throws the stars into disarray. She is enveloped as bliss in the letter "Ksham".Sri Pratyangira Devi is also associated with Sri Cakra. She is considered to be a powerful repellent of the influences generated by witch-craft. In Sri Cakra worship, she protects the devotees against all odds and guides him/her along the right path.In some image she is shown as dark complexion, terrible in aspect, having a lion's face with reddened eyes and riding a lion or wearing black garments, she wears garland of human skulls; her hair strands on end, and she holds a trident, a serpent in the form of a noose, a hand-drum and a skull in her four hands. Sri Pratyangira has been described variously in various Tantras. Nikumbhila Devi, whom you mentioned, who was worshipped by Indrajit, Ravana's son, is none but Pratyangira. However, it is not that Prathyangira Devi did not support Indrajit's upasana but that bad karma took over. When bad karma takes over by virtue of bad actions in this and previous births, then no amount of upasana can save the person. This is to be understood properly. What then would be needed is to do more vigorous sadhana with true prayaschitta bhava.

What happened when Indrajit started to support his father's bad karma?- his own upasana became vyartha and Hanuman went ahead and destroyed Indrajit's worship modality(Kruthya-prayogam)This has nothing to do with Devi Prathyangira. You can substitute the Devi with any other divine shakthi.

It is said that even to this date, there is a particular spot where Indrajit started his worship for Nikhumbhala Devi and many a Tamil-Tantrics I know frequent that place.

Pratyangira is also seen as Mahasudarshana. While Kartaviryarjuna is an Avatara of Sudarshana Chakra, the Jwalavatara of Sudarshana is said to be Pratyangira. That is why it was easy for Karthaveeryaarjuna to do his upasana for Nikhumbhala Devi.

Many things run by Karma and rinanubandhana, Srinivas!

One other legend which comes to my mind isthat of Lord Shiva whoassumed the form of Sharabheshwara to calm Nrisimha. Sharabheshwara hugged Nrisimha tightly to calm him down but instead got wilder. Now, both Nrisimha and Sharabha startedcreating havoc!

Sri Mahatripurasundari Rajarajeshwari Devi then seeing this rigmarole, created the MahOgra rupaof Maha Pratyangira devi, with thousands of hands and thousands of lion faces.

This goddess, who is the most fierce form of Sridevi ever known, calmed both Nrisimha and Sharabha by a mere laughter and absorbed all their eenrgies. Thus, Pratyangira represents the summation of the Ugra and Tivra Shaktis of Shiva, Shakti and Narayana.

She holds in her, Sharabha, Nrisimha and Shakti.

Pratyangira Upasana is not a joke. I have repeated this often and to curious people in my group(see my older postings on the subject), dissuaded them from taking the upasana by merely seeing the ugra rupa and getting excited. She may be worshipped by reciting Pratyangira Rk(Paipaladeeyam) or by Tantrokta mantras for Brahmi, Narayani, Raudri, Ugra Kritya or Atharvana Bhadrakali Pratyangira. Of these, the most severe mantra is that of Atharvana Bhadrakali.

The "ksh..." beejam and Prathyangira Stava-rajam are said to be especially very powerful as also prathyangira -ekaakshari.I refrain from giving out the mantra as even if I type them and someone reads them, it forms a bit of an initiation from me, which I want to avoid. Iam aware of the fact that some online sites(who have no idea what they are doing) and some books available in the mantra do reel out the mantras and beejas(however, I have seen that 99.95% have made one mistake or the other, which will overtime of cultivation by the reader give detrimental effects).

Sri Devi is also seen as the wife of Sharabheshwara, whose other wife is Shulini Durga. Pratyangira Upasana is generally possible by only those who have obtained Purna Diksha of Srividya as Pratyangira is the chief warrior goddess of Sri Lalita's army. Also for shamana(cooling Her) of the marmas after the upasana one needs to do certain mantras from the srividya lore, which can accrue upon only through an initiation.

One needs to be extremly cautious during Pratyangira Upasana. For every thousand recitation of her mantra, an equal number of Bala needs to be done. Some tantras also say that 1008 repetitions of Gayathri are needed for one mantra of prathyangira! Such is the puissance.According to Pratyangira Kalpa of Akasha Bhairava Tantra, equal number of Sharabha Japa is also necessary. The side effects of this mantra are severe.

In the words of Harshaji of Kamakoti Mandali:"To quote a personal example, every year during Shishira Ritu, Iundertake this purashcharana for a month. During this time, skin getscharred, eyes turn red, there is severe acidity and a sense of a hugeentity residing within. By the end of Purashcharana, it becomes sooverpowering that thousands of Bala mantra Japa becomes necessary tocalm Sri Paramba. Pratyangira Devi destroys all Abhicharas, Kritrimasand can break most of the known Krityas. Without complete guidancefrom an accomplished master, Pratyangira Upasana simply measn riskingone's life. The easier way is to worship Sri Lalitamba through thedivine Sahasranama. By simply doing this, one gets protection fromPratyangira, Sharabheshwara, Varahi and Martanda Bhairava".

Let me narrate one experience from my side too!

I used to frequent one Tantric in Chennai and finally after years of seva to Him, I learnt certain procedures for PrathyangirA, including a way to do a homa(using red chillies, cloves, etc). I have stopped doing it at the behest of my Srividya Guru who said "We have nothing to do with it".

During those days, I had one "friend" who was in business and he tempted me with good money and opportunities, to make me do a krithya for him. His intention was to decimate a guy in Indonesia. I said forthright, "I will not do such a thing, what harm has he done. Even if he has done some harm, it gives us no right to kill him, we have to bear our sufferings with a smile". I tried to instill some sense in him thus. But he would not listen and said "You have backstabbed me, Goodbye!". I just smiled and kept quite as he leaved in a huff.

Now, this guy acting very pious and humble had taken from me a prathyangira mantra, few weeks before the face-off. This person after the incident, used the very same mantra on me! Sitting and doing in the night a procedure given by me!

Can you attack your Guru?(Though, i never arrogate myself to the position of a guru, if I give a mantra to someone, I automatically become his Mantra-Guru atleast)

As I said before everything is determined by karma.

That night, I saw a hand(nakha-damshtra-yuktham) strangling my neck. I could see just a white light and the experience was really terrifying.I did not see the Devi and my voice was choked. I could not even think and started communicating with the "white-light-apparition-shakthi" athmically.

Following was the dialogue:" Who are you, why do you strangle me?""Iam Prathyamgira, if I reveal to you, you will be burnt to cinders. Keep quite, Fool!"" What wrong have i done? Why this strangulation?"She then showed me a scene of this "friend" of mine doing the krura-kruthya on me.I then realized what had happened.

I then said " Amma, to die in your hands is my bhagya. Many millions of years of my papa will be decimated by your mere touch.Iam a sinner, a total sinner and abhagyin,Iam thankful to (my friends name) for doing this to me. Who will have the bhagya in this kaliyuga to see you so freely and still talk with you! It is verily your karuna...."I could not speak for some time.I felt the hand on my neck releasing a bit but the white light was still there.I then spoke out aloud.

"Amma Amma Amma....nandri nandri(thankyou in tamil)....atheetha kripaa meedhi("your compassion is great"...in telugu...when emotional, a combination of Tamil, Telugu and English come)....But Amma, i gave the mantra to this guy and he is harming me because I rejected his request of using your mahashakthi for a nefarious purpose. Please burn me to cinders, if you think my statement is wee-bit wrong"

Lo behold! I could then see two eyes(very fierce and leonine) appear in the white light, looking at me very seriously as if to test my sincerity.

"ALRIGHT THEN, BLESS YOU"And She turned back and I could see hoards of Her ganas behind Her shouting "PRATHAYNGIRA PRATHYANGIRA...PRATHYANGIRA..." And the white light disappeared, I could see a faint image of a human form but of a lion mane(from behind) walking away into AkAsA.This happened @ 4 am-ish in Chennai, two years before my marriage. Why was I attacked in the first place? Because, I had given the mantra to a shatha and dushta."Na shathaaya na dusthaaya...karhichit.."(Lalitha Sahasranama). This was my karmic angle. What happened later? My "friend" was severely punished. He even tried tocommit suicide by drinking Dettol because he had a "love-failure" and "business-failure".But this taught me5 lessons.1. Guru's upadesha is to be followed2. Never fall for sensationalism and the romance and mysticsm of tantra and lose your head.3. Never give mantras to undeserving people.4. Karma leaves none(including the Guru)5. Don't play with ugra-Shakthi's too much, unless you know how to handle their energies. With this caveats, please do your research on the deity and seek out a true upasaka and then take the initiation. On the other hand, Lalitha sahasranama after panchadasi initiation will serve a purpose more than prathyangira upasana.Srividya upasana is the ultimate. Dont forget this!

Reply3. Rajesh9 June 2013 12:53Hi all,pls send me all about shri maa pratyangira devi coz i m highly affected by many enemies. My mail is [email protected] And [email protected].

The Pratyangira aspect of the Divine has been a bit of a secret

for most of these past ages. Many believed that direct experience

with this energy was reserved for Saints and Rishis. Seeing

Pratyangira in any form was considered an enormous blessing,

and an indication that you were in similar company.

Pratyangira comes from a deep, deep place within the Divine

Mother; an area simply known as the Void. In the Void there are

no thoughts of fear, or pain, or loss, or want, or time, or even

space just the warmth of the Mothers love.

As Pratyangira energy manifests, its often a very swift and

sometimes ferocious current. Many of the Saints whove seen

its energetic expression have described it as half lion and half

human. The lion head is that of a male and the body is that of

a female, representing the union of Shiva and Shakti. In her

full form, she is humongous, with 1008 heads (symbolically

representing the 1008-petalled Sahasrara Chakra, the universal

chakra of the cosmic energy) and 2016 hands, riding

majestically on a chariot pulled by 4 lions (representing the

4 Vedas), carrying many swords for removing obstacles.

The jaws of so many lions makes it very powerful for destroying

negative karmas, and a great blessing for anyone on a spiritual

path. However, such a current can be understandably rough,

so its wise to approach with respect and some consideration

of what our heart is asking for.

Two Rishis in the ancient times, Pratyangira and Angiras, in

their deep meditation, discovered this goddess through her

Moola Mantra in the ethereal waves of the sound current. And

though this Mother is nameless, she honored these Rishis by

giving the blessings to be named after them. She has hence

been known as Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi. The beejaksharam

(seed letter) of her Mantra is ksham (bliss).

Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi is all powerful and secretly protects

devotees and others. She is always by the side of Her

devotees. She is within each and every being in all planes of

existence, and there to be awakened within.

An awareness of Sri Maha Pratyangira Devi has been only

quietly known, until recently. Although the Siddha Masters and

great Maha Rishis like Sri Dhurvasha Munivar and Puli Paani

Siddhar have been devotees of this mother.

It is in that line of great devotion that Amma and Swami are

servants to this Mother.

Kritya

taptahaaTakakeshaanta jwalatpaavakalochana |vajraadhikanakhasparsha divyasimha namostute ||

Krityas are mantric weapons which are used to destroy a powerful enemy or defend oneself from an attack. There are five kinds of Krityas, based on the deity they are associated with:

1. Pratyangira

2. Shulini/Vanadurga

3. Kali

4. Tara

5. Bagalamukhi

Of these, Kritya-s associated with Pratyangira have been more popular. They are sixty-four in number.

Pratyangira has four main forms:

1. brahmI pratyangirA

2. narAyaNI pratyangirA

3. raudrI pratyangirA

4. atharvaNa bhadrakAli

Each of these four has sixteen Anga-vidyas, together resulting in 64 Krityas. Each of the Krityas have four mantric aspects: vaidika mantra, bIja mantra, mUla mantra and mAla mantra. By using all these four in the prescribed pattern, one can obtain the Siddhi of the Krityas. These Kritya-s are enumerated in Atharvana Bhadrakali Khadgamala [brAmI, shIrShaNvatI, shatrupratikUlA, AyuHnikrntanI, rAkShasakShayI, pashunAshinI, kartrumAriNI, AgneyI, vAsisShThA, rathikA, krodhajWalinI, devakrodhI, asrkpibatI, charAcharahantrI, ashivakarI, aShTApadI, vidyunmAlini, shunakapaiShTikA, shapanAshA, shiravisphAriNI, vrkI, rakShiNI, dAhinI, dishAbandhinI, mrgahantri, swalankrtA, pratikriyA, angavicChedinI, krodhini, sarvasamhAriNI, preriNI, tApinI, pApashamanI, shukI etc] The names of these deities themselves are so powerful that one should spell them with great respect for ambA.

Most of these Krityas are weapons used to hit the enemy rather than defend oneself from attack. Hence, a Srividyopasaka needs to spend no time mastering these mantras. As Pratyangira is uttaranga to Mahashodashi, and these constitute her anga devatas, they are used as anga mantras and during AvaraNa pUjA for Pratyangira. That would be the only use of these mantras for a real Srividyopasaka, who is a mumukshu.

As this is one of the most ferocious forms of ambA, those without the required temperament and qualification, should never attempt to undertake Pratyangira Upasana. Those who are directed by Guru to do the same should do it under his direct guidance. nyAsa, kIlana, kavacha, shapoddhAra, upasamhAra, japa shamti are the six aspects of Pratyangira upasana, without understanding which one is not encouraged to undertake her upAsanA.

Moreover, a Srividya Upasaka is automatically blessed with protection from Pratyangira as clearly stated by Bhagavan Hayagriva, without having to specifically invoke pratyangirA. When one achieves the grace of the supreme queen Sri Lalita Mahabhattarika, every mantra, known and unknown, becomes swasiddha and susiddha. Sri Rajarajeshwari is shaktichakraikanAyikA and remembering her lotus feet offers the best protection.

She is enveloped as bliss in the letter "Ksham". Sri Pratyangira Devi is also associated with Sri Cakra. She is considered to be a powerful repellent of the influences generated by witch-craft. In Sri Cakra worship, she protects the devotees against all odds and guides him/her along the right path. In some image she is shown as dark complexion, terrible in aspect, having a lion's face with reddened eyes and riding a lion or wearing black garments, she wears garland of human skulls; her hair strands on end, and she holds a trident, a serpent in the form of a noose, a hand-drum and a skull in her four hands.
