The Practicum 1 Grading System Grades are different in the AV Production Classes. This explains the grading system for the third year class called Practicum 1 in Audio Video Production, better known as JV KAHS. This class is an audition to make it to Practicum 2. There are 15 students in the class and only 10 will make it. Meaning that 5 will be cut. This grading system is used to help determine who will make it to the next class This class mixes the grading system of the AVP class, but adds a point system to it as well. Students are still given a weekly grade based on their soft skills, but on top of this they are assigned the producer role for two different assignments over the course of the six weeks. They are also awarded points or deducted points on their class participation when they are not in the producer role. How the Class Works On Monday we air the announcements and a skit. The Practicum 1 Grading SystemGrades are different in the AV Production Classes. This explains the grading system for the third year class called Practicum 1 in Audio Video Production, better known as JV KAHS.

• This class is an audition to make it to Practicum 2. There are 15 students in the class and only 10 will make it. Meaning that 5 will be cut. This grading system is used to help determine who will make it to the next class

• This class mixes the grading system of the AVP class, but adds a point system to it as well.

• Students are still given a weekly grade based on their soft skills, but on top of this they are assigned the producer role for two different assignments over the course of the six weeks.

• They are also awarded points or deducted points on their class participation when they are not in the producer role.

How the Class WorksOn Monday we air the announcements and a skit. On Wednesday we air the announcements and a news package. The class is broken up into 3 teams comprised of 6 students. One team takes care of the skit, the other the news pack, and the other the show. This goes on for six weeks. With each team working on their respective duty each week. But what changes each week are the producers for that weeks assignment. Two students are assigned the job of producer. This responsibility rotates through the group each week. So at the end of each week, the "show team" has produced two shows. the "skit" team has produced one skit, and the "package" team has produced one package. At the end of the six weeks, the teams rotate jobs. No producers work with each other more than once. The schedule is highly complex and its the student’s responsibility to know when their deadline is.

The Point SystemSo you have students that are part of the team, but not ultimately responsible for that show, skit, or package in that week if they are not a producer. Those students efforts are chronicled on a "participation poster" using color coded dots.

Blue stands for "acceptable"Green stands for "exceptional"Red stands for "unacceptable"

I put the dots on the chart after reviewing the work and offering feedback with the team.

You can also earn green dots for performing above expectations and earn red dots for performing below expectations in regards to work or behavior outside a student’s weekly assignments.

Green dots are given for:Did you submit to a contest?Did you place in a contest?Did you write a blog post?Did you do the team a favor? You can produce a video tutorial to share with the class. If i receive good feedback from school staff or the public about how well you conducted yourself in the field, that is also a green dot.

Red dots are given for:3 tardies or moreMissing the mandatory Monday story meetingHorseplayDid you leave equipment out, or not put the room back the way it was, or put equipment in the wrong spot?Did you fail to communicate with me in regards to my expectations that were set at the start of the year?Did your show or segment get pulled do to low production value?Did I catch you skipping? or lying to me?

At the end of it I tally up the points. A blue dot = 1 point, a green = 2 points and a red is -2 points. You will have a score and that score will be used in your evaluation relative to your peers to see if you can make it to the next level.
