PRACTICE TEACHING Introduction The apex of all the experiential Learning Course is the Practice Teaching. It is the total immersion of the prospective teacher in the real life of beer experiences becoming a teacher. During practice teaching, the pre –service teacher experiences the rudiments of teaching in a cyclical process of planning, actual teaching and evaluating learning. The pre-service teacher, who may be called apprentice or student teacher intern, walks the whole process of teaching with a mentor, who is called the cooperating teacher. Here the pre-service teacher puts all that were learned in the content and theory of courses, strategies or methods of teaching as well as put into the test the pedagogical content knowledge acquired in related courses prior to Practice Teaching. As the last field study course, the practice teacher is given all the opportunities to bring out the best of every prospective teacher. This is necessary in the mastery of the competencies needed as clearly spelled out in the National

This is necessary in the mastery of the competencies needed as clearly spelled out in the National Competency- Based Standards for Teachers and CMO 30, s. 2004 and its regional adaptation.To achieve this goal, Practice Teaching should be a collaborative effort of the Teacher Training Institutions where the content and strategy courses are first learned and the Cooperating Schools of the Department of Education where much of the Practice Teaching experiences take place.Where learning environment has extended beyond the classroom alone, the demands of the diversity of learners are great the complexity.Objectives/Goals of Student TeachingTeaching as a profession needs much preparation. Its objectives are1. Apply theories, principles and techniques learned in the professional education courses whenever needs arise, especially in actual classroom situations.2. Acquire varied teaching competencies to be objective3. Develop ones personalityThe Supervisor of Student TeachingHe is a faculty member from the college where the student teachers are enrolled. He supervises and evaluates the student teachers in their off- campus activities in order to prepare them in their work as a teacher;Duties and Responsibilities of the Supervisor of Student Teaching1. Prepare the program of activities for Student Teaching every semester;2. Coordinates with the Dean and the Chair in identifying cooperating schools for the student teachers;3. Prepares and implements in the Memorandum of agreement between the cooperating school/s and the college;4. Conducts regular orientation meetings, conferences, lectures, workshops, etc. with the student teachers;5. Coordinates with the head of the cooperating school regarding the activities and the needs of the student teachers related to their practice teaching;6. Visits classes handled by student teachers;7. Observes and evaluates the performance of student teachers in their practice teaching activities and confers with them the results of the observation;8. Attends meetings regarding student teaching called by the college and the cooperating school;9. Conducts exit interview of student teachers;10. Submits written reports about Student Teaching at least twice a semester; and11. Performs other duties and responsibilities analogous, germane or related to and/ or implied from the functions listed herein.The Cooperating SchoolIt is the school where the student teacher is assigned. This school is selected on the basis of the type and quality of programs, administrators and teachers available to provide the best experiences for the student teacher.The Cooperating TeacherHe is the teacher from the cooperating school who guides the student teacher in making use of the knowledge previously learned. He is assigned by the immediate head or supervisor. He also practices the skills obtained in the specialized subjects.The student teacher will at first listen and observe his cooperating teacher and later will assist in the different activities and soon teach his own classes. The cooperating teacher does not receive any additional compensation for the work he does. It is the professional commitment on his part to help the future teachers. At the same time, he helps and improves his own competence.Duties and Responsibilities of the Cooperating Teacher1. Prepares for the student teachers arrival;2. Provides opportunities for student teachers to meet the principal and other school personnel;3. Learn about the student teachers background and legal status;4. Reads the student teaching book;5. Becomes aware of policies concerning student teaching and student teacher responsibilities;6. Secures materials in evaluating student teachers;7. Develops a plan for the student teachers entry into teaching; and8. Makes necessary arrangements for the student teachers in the different activities.The Student TeacherBefore becoming a student teacher, one needs to pass all the general professional education subjects of the college. These education courses are designed to give insights into sociological, philosophical, psychological and anthropological foundations of education, the curriculum, methods of teaching, use of instructional materials, techniques of evaluation, and the professional responsibilities of the student teacher.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Student Teacher1. Sets clear purpose/objectives of teaching;2. Studies individual class and the community needs;3. Makes effective plans and provides for a balanced program;4. Makes content meaningful by using appropriate methods of teaching and instructional materials; 5. Provides for individual and group work;6. Evaluates learning from the beginning to the end;7. Provides a good environment for learning; and8. Maintains professional relationship.
