Jordan is a Certified Specialists in Estates and Trusts Law and an Adjunct Professor of Law at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Canada. Pat Blake is a retired Detective having spent 30 years with the Hamilton Police

Service. In 1996, Pat was asked to assume the role as the Senior’s Support Officer and develop the Hamilton Police Services response to senior’s issues. In March of 2004, Pat became the Lead Detective for the Hamilton Police Services Crimes Against Seniors. The unit was the first crime unit in Canada with the specific mandate to investigate crimes against seniors. Pat retired from the Hamilton Police Service in February of 2011 and became a Field Investigator for the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services. Pat and his wife Joanne live in Stoney Creek and have three adult children.

Dr. Cameron was appointed Regional Supervising Coroner North Region – Sudbury Office in January 2015. Dr. Cameron is a physician and a lawyer. He has worked clinically as a family doctor and hospitalist, in the legal field as a business lawyer and health law consultant, and administratively as a hospital vice-president and chief of staff. The Honourable Susan Greer Susan joined Amicus Chambers in December 2014, to take on a new role as a mediator and arbitrator at the end of her 23 year career as a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice - Ontario. While on the Court, she had been the Team Leader for the Estates List for 11 years, and spent most of her career on the Bench on the Civil Team. In her early years, she was part of the Case Management Team, and latterly concentrated on Family, Estates and Divisional Court matters. Susan came to the Court after an 18 year career with McCarthy, Tetrault where she was head of the Estates, Trusts and Estate Litigation group. As an Estates expert, Susan was nominated for and has been a member of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel, a part of the American Bar Association, for the past 31 years. Susan has also been a member of the Canadian Bar Association for 41 years, and participated in many programmes sponsored by it and the Law Society of Upper Canada over those years. She recently was honoured by the Trusts and Estates Section of the Ontario Bar Association, receiving its Award of Excellence.

Tim was the founding Secretary, and a past chair of the Ottawa branch of the Society of Trust and

Estate Practitioners (STEP) and is presently Chair of STEP Canada.

Tim Grieve obtained his B.A. in political science from the University of Calgary in 1984

and his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 1988. He was called to the Bar in 1990 and is a

partner in the Ottawa law firm of Merovitz·Potechin LLP, practicing in the trusts and estates,

corporate-commercial and not-for-profit areas. Originally from Calgary, Tim has lived in

Ottawa since 1985. He is an active member of his local community and lends his time and

expertise to several charitable organizations.

Bianca La Neve

Bianca La Neve of WeirFoulds LLP is an experienced litigator with a practice specialized in handling complex and sensitive matters in relation to all aspects of estate, trusts and capacity litigation. Her focused practice combined with her trusted advice have made her clients come to rely on her for all matters concerning guardianships, will challenges and interpretations, power of attorney issues and disputes, passings of accounts, variations of trust, and dependant relief applications.

Bianca has appeared before various levels of courts in Ontario, including the Ontario Court of Appeal. Before joining WeirFoulds, Bianca practised at a leading estate litigation boutique.

Bianca represents a variety of clients, including estate trustees and other individuals, trust companies and charities. She routinely acts as agent lawyer for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer in contentious estate matters and has been appointed counsel by the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee for persons whose capacity is at issue.

Bianca is actively engaged in the legal profession and matters that benefit the larger community. She has spoken at programmes hosted by the Ontario Bar Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada. Biography

Hilary Laidlaw is counsel in our Tax Group in Toronto. As a Certified Specialist in Estates and Trusts Law, her

practice focuses on estate litigation, estate planning and administration.

Ms. Laidlaw represents both personal and corporate clients in a wide variety of estate disputes, including

contested wills, dependant support proceedings, trust variations and incompetency matters. She also advises

clients on estate planning, including the preparation of related documents such as wills, trusts and powers of

attorney. Having assumed a senior management position within the trust industry from 1998 to 2001, she

brings the skills and experience acquired during that period to her estate and trust practice.

She is a frequent lecturer and participant in conferences and continuing legal education programmes

addressing current issues in the law of estates and trusts. Ms. Laidlaw has written extensively in the area and

has made numerous appearances in other media. She was an instructor for the Institute of Law Clerks of

Ontario and for the Law Society of Upper Canada Bar Admission Course in Estate Planning and

Administration, and served as head of that Section from 2001 to 2006. Following restructuring of bar admission,

Ms. Laidlaw now sits on the Law Society’s Advisory Committee for licensure examination, and has been active

in both continuing education and law reform initiatives. She is a former member of the editorial board for the

CCH Canadian Estate Administration Guide and the executive of the Trusts and Estates Section of the Ontario

Bar Association, where she served two terms as Chair. She is a member of the Toronto Estate Planning

Council and a past member of the National Committee of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Ms. Laidlaw has consistently appeared in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, a guide to the leading law

firms and practitioners in Canada, as a leading lawyer in the areas of estate and personal tax planning and

estate litigation. She has also been consistently listed in the Best Lawyers in Canada in the field of trusts and

estates, and is currently listed as a leading lawyer in the areas of private client and private funds in Who's Who

Legal: Canada. She was the 2010 recipient of the Ontario Bar Association's Award of Excellence in Trusts

Kay Leung, Counsel

Kay’s practice focuses on tax matters, including corporate reorganizations, cross-border

transactions, purchase and sale of businesses, personal tax and estate planning.

Kay acts as a trusted advisor to a number of private companies and high net worth families and in

particular, has assisted many families with their succession planning issues.

In addition to advising clients on various tax planning strategies, Kay has an excellent record in

dealing with voluntary disclosures for high net worth families with international assets.

She also specializes in advising high net worth families moving from overseas to Canada.

Prior to joining Wilson Vukelich LLP, Kay was a lawyer and partner at a major Canadian law

firm, as well as a financial and tax-planning expert at a chartered bank.

Mike Press Senior Firearms Officer Mike Press has been a member of the Toronto Police Service for 29 years. As a member of the Toronto Police Service, he is assigned to the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force – Firearm Enforcement Unit which is part of Toronto’s Organized Crime Enforcement Unit. Mike has been seconded to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police – Firearm Investigative and Enforcement Services Directorate as an Investigator since 2009 working out of the NWEST (National Weapons Enforcement Support Team) Ontario office. As part of his duties he conducts and provides investigative assistance with Public Safety investigations as well as investigations into the illegal use, smuggling, distribution and trafficking of legal and illegal firearms, weapons, prohibited devices, ammunition, prohibited ammunition and explosives with Local, National and International law enforcement agencies. Mike has been qualified in the Provincial and Supreme Courts of Nova Scotia, as well as the Ontario Superior and Ontario Courts of Justice to provide expert opinion evidence on various topics including:

Firearm and ammunition identification, classification and testing by the Police;

Licencing, registration and storage of firearms,

Firearm and ammunition trafficking;

Illegal movement of firearms including crime gun sources;

Characteristics of an Armed Person and Firearm Concealment;

Street, coded, guarded, slang language and covert conversations related to firearms and ammunition including their criminal use and possession;

Legal pricing and illegal street prices of firearms and ammunition and related firearm components including the sale and distribution of legal and illegal firearms.

Debra Stephens, LLB – Goddard Gamage Stephens LLP

Debra Stephens was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1982. Her practice initially focused on family, estate,

trust and guardianship issues. Since 1998 she has specialized in estate litigation, administration and

planning.

Debra has worked in private legal practice for most of her career. In 2010 she joined Goddard Gamage

Stephens LLP, a firm which specializes in estate and trust matters and guardianship and elder law.

Before joining Goddard Gamage Stephens LLP, Debra was The Children’s Lawyer for the Province of

Ontario. The Office of the Children’s Lawyer is responsible for providing legal services to children in

various proceedings before Ontario courts and tribunals. Prior to her appointment as The Children’s

Lawyer, Deb was with Schnurr Kirsh Stephens, a firm which also specializes in trust, estate and mental

incompetency issues. Debra is a member of the Toronto Lawyers Association and the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations, Family Law and Trusts and Estates Sections. She is currently on the Executive of the Ontario Bar Association Trusts and Estates Section. Debra has been an adjunct professor with the University of Toronto Law School teaching estates and trust law, has taught the Estate Law Clerk programme at Humber College, and has lectured on estates, trusts and guardianship issues at Osgoode Hall Law School and for the Osgoode Professional Development programme. Debra is a frequent lecturer and has chaired programmes for the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, regional Estate Planning Councils, and other professional and community organizations. Debra has also authored numerous articles related to estates, trust, insurance, guardianships, and family law.

Lionel Tupman

Lionel is a Partner with WEL Partners where he exclusively practices estate,

trust and power of attorney litigation. Lionel regularly appears before the Court

of Appeal for Ontario, the Divisional Court, the Superior Court of Justice and

the Ontario Court of Justice, and he possesses a broad range of advocacy skills

as a result of his regular attendances in court. Lionel also has a unique

knowledge of administrative judicial review procedure, and represents clients

in judicial review matters in Divisional Court.

Prior to joining Whaley Estate Litigation, Lionel practiced commercial,

administrative and estate litigation with a top boutique litigation firm in

Toronto, and Lionel practiced estate litigation and fraud and asset recovery

litigation with an international law firm in Toronto.

In 2014, Lionel ran as a candidate for the Ontario Provincial Parliament, and

he remains active in politics at the federal and provincial levels, appearing

before legislative committees to make submissions on proposed legislation.

When he is not in the office or at court, Lionel can be found playing saxophone

in his Blues Band, which performs regularly at venues around Ontario for

various charitable causes.

Corina Weigl is a partner with Fasken Martineau. She focuses her practice on estate and family

business succession planning, including wills and trusts, corporate re-organizations, marriage

Kimbelry is the Past Chair of The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Toronto Branch. Kimberly is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Toronto. Kimberly has been on the Estate List Users Committee of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice at Toronto since its inception in 2003.

Kimberly’s most rewarding achievement and passion is her daughter, Sammi, age 16. Kim has an affection for cooking, cycling and photography and is still experimenting with her Nikon D800 and new lenses. Kim also runs marathons in her spare time and is taking guitar lessons.
