PR20 Interview Analysis

For the final aspect of my assignment I am going to review my interview with my teacher Paul Rossington while frequently making reference to the survey I conducted on survey monkey. In addition, within my survey I conducted a total amount of nine questions which focused on different aspects of my interview such as the style. I also sent my questionnaire out to multiple audience profiles who I knew therefore, broadening my surveys answers and opinions. Before I go into analysis, I thoroughly believe the answers I received off my demographic audience profiles will improve my next interview with an interviewee because I’ll be able to improve aspects which I didn’t execute knowledgeably and professionally.

Q1:

Furthermore, the first question I asked on my survey was; ‘Do you think my interview adhered to the needs of my demographic target audience (parents)?’ In addition, I think this particular was used effectively on my

survey because by asking this question I will essentially find out if my interview would appeal to my intended demographic target audience which were predominantly parents. As you can see above, a total amount of

nine respondents answered this question and all of them agreed as they answered with ‘Yes’ (100%). When I viewed this question at the end I was fairly surprised as I thought some of the questions I asked were

irrelevant. Despite this particular fact, I therefore believe if my interview was broadcasted on the correct radio station or show it should substantially appeal to my demographic target audience.

Q2:

In contrast, as you can see above is the second question which I displayed on my questionnaire. The question which I asked was ‘Do you think my interview would broadcast effectively on E6 radio news?’ for those who that don’t know E6 radio is Eccles Sixth Form Centres radio station and it broadcasts out mainly to students within the college as well as some of the teachers present. In addition, a total amount of nine respondents

answered my second question and 100% of them answered with ‘Yes’. In conclusion, I therefore thoroughly believe if my interview was to broadcast on E6 radio at some time in the day when the college is most popular

it would substantially appeal towards the demographic audience profiles within Eccles Sixth Form Centre.

Q3:

Additionally, as you can see above I have once again placed another image which shows the context of my third question on my survey. The third question I asked was; ‘Which style of news do you think my interview adhered to?’ I particularly wanted to ask this question because before I interviewed my interviewee I had to select a style of news therefore; I wanted to check if I portrayed the style I chose. As you can see above, the

answers were split between two different answers which are ‘Hard news and ‘Investigative’. In terms of

Page 4: PR20 Interview Analysis

statistics two people (22.22%) answered with ‘Hard news’ and seven people (77.78%) answered with ‘Investigative’. In addition, the style which I selected before my interview in pre-production was an

investigative style therefore, the majority of my respondents answered correctly. Due to this fact, I believe my questions and communication skills within my interview portrayed the correct style of news as most of my

audience answered correctly. However, I can see why two of my respondents answered with ‘Hard news’ as this story might affect them badly therefore, making them want this story to go to the top of the line so it is dealt with as soon as possible. Also I wanted to select this style of interview because I felt by doing this my

demographic target audience would have an insight into the substantial cuts which the conservative party are making currently to disability, NHS and multiple other funds therefore, leaving disabled feeling discriminated within particular schools across the United Kingdom. To conclude, I expected to receive answers like this in

my hypothesis predominantly due to the types and styles of my questions as they formally attacked the conservative (tory) party.

Q4:

Furthermore, as you can see above I have displayed the fourth question which I asked on my survey conducted on survey monkey. The fourth question I asked which I believed worked effectively on my survey was ‘Do you think my interview was structured correctly?’ I wanted to ask this question because if I was to produce and structure another interview I would know what to do and not what to do therefore, possibly

from receiving these answers I will now be able to conduct a better interview in the future when I am asked. In addition, as you can see above the answers on the question were fairly one sided as a total amount of eight

respondents (88.89%) answered with “Yes’ and one respondent (11.11%) answered with ‘No’. Therefore, from these particular answers I can tell that the majority of my audience thought the structure of my

Page 5: PR20 Interview Analysis

interview was good however, as one respondent answered with ‘No’, within my next interview I will try to adhere to that audiences needs as I’m sure if I were substantially increase my survey respondents more than

one would have answered with ‘No’. In conclusion, I therefore believe this answer has impacted on me substantially when I come to execute my next interview.

Q5:

In addition, the fifth question on my survey asked my audience this; ‘Do you think my communication skills (building report) were used effectively within my interviewee with my interviewee?’ I wanted to ask this

question because if I found out that I used the wrong communication skills I could then work on that for my next interview so I could improve substantially. Furthermore, a total amount of eight respondents (88.89%) answered with ‘Yes’ and one respondent (11.11%) out of nine answered with ‘No’. Due to these particular answers I know within my next interview that I just need to slightly adjust my communication skills so I can adhere to the needs of a much broader target audience. Therefore, by doing this my interview should gain

maximum coverage from my demographic target audience. To conclude this, I still thoroughly believe that the communication skills within my interview were used effectively with my interviewee as I managed to receive

some great answers.

Q6:

In contrast, for the sixth question on my survey I decided to focus on one of my questions which I asked within my interview as I was unsure on whether or not it worked effectively within. The question I asked

towards my audience was; ‘Johnny Mercer a tory backbencher said ‘we must look after our most vulnerable at every turn. No doubt the welfare spend is still too high, but for those who really need it, it is a lifeline’. Even though tory backbenchers are going against these cuts; why do cuts still continue to be made prominently by

George Osbourne?’ – Do you think this open-ended question was used effectively within my interview?’ In addition, once I viewed the answers for this question I was fairly surprised as all nine respondents (100%)

answered with ‘Yes’. Therefore, these particular answers on the other hand lowered my suspicion overall as I was notified that this was an effective and informative question within my interview. To conclude, I think this

Page 7: PR20 Interview Analysis

question was used effectively in my survey as I slightly supported the tory party while also attacking their chancellor (George Osbourne). Therefore, if any tory party supporters were listening they wouldn’t have

been driven away from the interview as I was fully investigating the conservative party cuts.

Q7:

Furthermore, the seventh question displayed on my survey focused predominantly on the purpose of my interview. The question which I asked my respondents was; ‘Do you think the purposes of my interview

(informational, expressing opinion and interpretive), appealed effectively towards my target audience?’ I wanted to ask this particular question because I was once again unsure if my interview purpose would appeal towards my target audience so in order to adhere to all of my target audience I followed off multiple different

purposes which I stated within the question. In addition, the answers I received off this particular question were also unexpected as a total amount of nine respondents (100%) answered with ‘Yes’. As all of my

respondents approved of the purposes of my interview I therefore, thoroughly believe that my intended target audience would adhere substantially well towards my interview. In conclusion, I believe the answers off

this particular question have increased my confidence in pre-production as I selected all of the correct purposes for my interview surrounding the circumference of the education industry.

Q8:

Additionally, for the eighth question on my questionnaire I wanted to predominantly focus on my question types because if I asked a question surrounding this aspect it will let me know if my questions were used

effectively. The question I asked was ‘Do you think my broad question types were used effectively within my interview?’ also, once I reviewed the answers for this specific question I was slightly surprised as a total amount of nine respondents (100%) answered with ‘Yes’. This on the other hand, proved to me that my

questions were used effectively as they adhered substantially towards my demographical target audience. In conclusion, I wanted to ask this question because within my interview I prominently used open-ended questions and I wanted to check if any of the respondents thought I should have used more types of questions such as directional. However, as no one complied with this I have therefore, developed my

confidence substantially for future interviews surrounding different up-coming or established news stories.

Q9:

In contrast, for my final question on my survey I decided to focus on the interviewee which I selected for this particular interview. In addition, for those who do not know for my interview I decided to question a teacher on why disabled children are left feeling discriminated as I used this subject I decided to follow upon to the

conservative party and the amount of cuts they are making to disabled children benefits and the NHS. In addition, the question I asked was ‘Finally, do you think I selected the correct interviewee for my chosen

subject (disabled children left feeling discriminated)?’ once I reviewed the questions answers I found out that a total amount of nine respondents (100%) answered with ‘Yes’. Therefore, all of my respondents agreed that I selected the correct interviewee. However, I wish I would have placed within the question who else do you

think would be a good interviewee. In addition, if I was to answer that question I would probably say a conservative party MP. To conclude, despite this fact I am still happy with the interviewee I chose for this

particular interview.

In my overall conclusion, I thoroughly believe that all of the questions within my survey were relevant as the majority of them managed to substantially increase my confidence for future interviews possibly within university. Therefore, I am incredibly proud of my outcome from this unit as I now know what I am capable of within radio news production. The only aspect which I would push on my self was to possibly select a more

effective interviewee such as a conservative party politician (MP). For example, I could have interviewed David Rutley who is the MP of Macclesfield as he would have had a thorough knowledge on this specific topic.
