Political Launch of DotAfrica

Addis Ababa, 2 June 2014 - On the 22nd of May 2014 the Ceremony of the Political Launch of DotAfrica was held at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa during a cocktail.

This symbolic ceremony, one of the activities marking the year-long closing events of the 50th OAU/AU anniversary were chaired by Mr. Erastus Mwencha, Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission in the presence of some AU Commissioners, AU Member States’ Ambassadors and AU staff among other invited guests, all invited by Dr Ehlam Ibrahim Mamoud, Commissioner for infrastructure and Energy. The CEO of the technical operator appointed by AUC – ZA Central Registry (ZACR), Lucky Masilela was also present at this launch.

The cocktail was open to all members of the public who came in their numbers to witness the commencement of the existence of DotAfrica as One internet domain name for the entire African continent The African Union Commission would like to reiterate its thanks to the African Internet community for the unwavering support for DotAfrica project through its long journey to its final delegation by ICANN up to this political launch.
