Guidelines for PQPAttempt to use poetic language/terms when
you praise or polish a poem.
Think of the images created in your mind (imagery/descriptive language), figurative
language or comparisons (metaphor/simile), structural components (stanzas, rhyme
scheme, organization of poem), and connections to self, other texts or real-world.
Guidelines for Questioning
• Ask about word meanings• Question the meanings of metaphors and
similes • Ask a question about the poet• Question the author’s purpose or tone• Question the use of words, phrases, descriptions• Question the connection of the title to the poem

• Use poetic terms…• Figurative
language… • Descriptive
language…• Sensory language…• Personal connections
or stories….TO DESCRIBE!
• Say, “I don’t know,” “nothing,” or “everything” to describe your feelings about a poem
• Use the same response for every poem
