Effectiveness of Pomelo Rind use as a Candle Mosquito Repellent

Effectiveness of Pomelo Rind use as a Candle Mosquito RepellentIntroductionThe group conducted this study to prove that Pomelo rind have its important use. Pomelo contain Limonene that can repel mosquitoes.

Hence, the group aimed to prove that pomelo rinds are capable of being used as an ingredient to innovate an effective candle mosquito repellent. This project can be beneficial not only to help get rid of mosquito but also affordable, easy to make and eco-friendly.Statement of the ProblemIs the Pomelo Rinds Limonene effective as a candle mosquito repellent? Can Pomelo rind be the official raw materials of a candle mosquito repellent? What are the contents of pomelo peel that make these the best candle mosquito repellent to use in this project?Does pomelo peel have abilities in reducing the number of people that will be affected due to mosquitoes? Is the product comparable to the commercially available candle mosquito repellent in terms of :OdorCostEffectiveness

HypothesisHo: The oil extracted from pomelo peel can be a raw material in making candle mosquito repellent.H1: The oil extracted from pomelo peel cannot be a raw material in making candle mosquito repellent.Ho: The product will be able to repel the mosquitoes because of its components that are hazardous to the mosquitoes.H1: The product will be unable to repel the mosquitoes because of its components that are hazardous to the mosquitoes.Ho: The product is comparable to commercially available candle mosquito repellent in terms of odor, cost, texture and effectivenessH1:The product is incomparable to commercially available candle mosquito repellent in terms of odor, cost, texture and effectiveness

Scope and LimitationsThe study was limited to the effect of Limonene extract obtained from Pomelo Rind to mosquitoes. No attempt was made to compare or study other properties of Pomelo Rind and there was no attempt made to test other insects for the said product.

The Theoretical Framework that will be used in the study is the IPO model. An IPO chart demonstrates how resources put into the system (inputs) undergo a change (process) to produce results (outputs). In this model, it identifies the processing steps required to transform the inputs into outputs.PROCESSConceptual FrameworkPROCESSINPUT-Materials used-Knowledge-Tools/ Equipments used-Time-Data Gathered

BLENDINGThe process starts with the mixing of the water and the pomelo rind using the blender then the extraction of Limonene from the Pomelo Rind; by simple steam to its limonene boiling point (176). Next, mixing the used candle in the extracted limonene solution. This one is optional, if wanted to add some colours to the candle, old crayons are effective in adding colour to it by melting with the used wax in a small amount of heat.Next, the product will be stored in a shot glass which is covered by re-sealable plastic to preserve and protect the products qualities. Then, the re-sealable package of the product will be prepared for a fitting lay-out of a design. Finally, the product output will be tested to determine its effectiveness to its supposed use.

Research MethodologyThe research study consists of testing the repellency properties of used candle wax mixed with limonene extract obtained from Pomelo rind. Each sample is mixed in different ratios of D-limonene.Materials

MethodologyUsed Pomelo gathered and the rinds were manually separated from its coral-pink flesh to the thin green part with the use of a cutter and 500 grams of pomelo rind were measured. Limonene was extracted by having different sets of solutions through extraction and distillation.

Control SetupA control setup was prepared with the commercialized mosquito coil repellent. Subjected from 5 to 15 minutes interval time per observations, 15 mosquitoes per cage of sample.

TestingThe test was conducted under similar prevailing conditions: Subjected from 5 to 15 minutes interval time per observation, 30 mosquitoes per cage of sample.

Presentation of Data

SummaryThe production of essential oil extracted from pomelo rind was a big contribution to the outcome of the finished product. Based on the findings of the study, the researchers prove that using extracted oil mixed with used melted candles have the same level of effectiveness in repelling mosquitoes just like the commercialized products. ConclusionThrough different process involve, the researchers can obtain a candle mosquito repellent which is cheaper, good quality and environmental friendly.

And also, by using discarded pomelo peels, it can eliminate waste and reduced clogged mainstreams and drainage systems that will help to prevent floods.ExpensesMethanol P180Thin Host P120Crayons P36Shot Glass P40Borax P180Beeswax P300Fare Expense P544
