    INTRODUCTION

    } The mission of satellite is not only to improve theenvironment for mobile-phone basedcommunications, but also to contribute to thedevelopment of technologies for a satellite-based

    multimedia broadcasting system for mobiledevices.

    } It will play as important role in the provision ofservices and information, such as the transmission

    of CD-quality audio and video; more reliable voiceand data communications; global positioning ofmoving objects such as cars, broadcasting.

    } Because phase array antenna contain manyattractive characteristics such as :

    Usage:} The phased array is used for instance in optical

    communication as a wavelength-selective splitter.} Broadcasting

    } In broadcast engineering, phased arrays are requiredto be used by many AM broadcast radio stations to

    enhance signal strength and therefore coverage inthe city of license, while minimizing interference toother areas.

    } Phased array radar systems are also used bywarships of many navies. Phased array radars allow a

    warship to use one radar system for surface detectionand tracking (finding ships), air detection andtracking (finding aircraft and missiles) and missileuplink capabilities.

    Types of Phase Array AntennasThere are two main different types of phased arrays, also

    called beam formers

    Time Domain Beam formers

    A time domain beam former works, as the name says, bydoing time-based operations. The basic operation is called

    "delay and sum". It delays the incoming signal from eacharray element by a certain amount of time, and then addsthem together

    Frequency Domain Beam former

    There are two different types of frequency domain beamformers. The first type separates the different frequencycomponents that are present in the received signal intodifferent frequency bins (using either an FFT or afilterbank).
