PPG SidingSafe™
Advanced Color Technology Solutions for Vinyl Siding & Architectural Plastics
PPG SidingSafe™ Color Technology
What is PPG SidingSafe™ Color Technology?
PPG SidingSafe is an advanced color matching technology that enables customers to choose from virtually any color for use on vinyl, architectural plastic, or composite.
SidingSafe formulas are included in your August/September 2011 Datacolor color software upgrade.
Why is PPG SidingSafe™ needed?
Historically, vinyl siding could only be painted the same color or lighter as the siding would warp or buckle when painted a color darker than the original siding.
This warping was caused by specific darker colorants used when tinting the paint.
How it works
The same color can often be achieved by using different color formulas or different colorant combinations.
PPG SidingSafe provides color formulas without the use of Black (B) or Raw Umber (L), two colorants known to absorb heat and ultimately lead to warping.

How it works
Here’s an example of Victorian Pewter, 541-5, using the traditional Voice of Color formula and using the SidingSafe Color formula*.

Broad color capabilities
If a PPG color or a competitor’s color already exists in your Datacolor “Color Cards” tab in your system, a SidingSafe color most likely already exists.
Nearly ALL the 1,890 Voice of Color® Colors have SidingSafe color formulas already in your system.
Limitations
Because these are in the “Color Cards” tab, please remember these are not verified matches.
There are some color limitations for super dark colors such as blacks and dark browns, dark blues, etc.

Accessing SidingSafe formulas
SidingSafe formulas are included in your August/Sept 2011 Datacolor color software upgrades.
To access a SidingSafe formula in Datacolor, you can:1) look it up in your existing “Color Cards” tab, or
2) scan in a color using your color eye
Remember, it is always best to use your “Color Cards” tab versus scanning when possible.

Creating custom formulas
SidingSafe formulas are NOT verified formulas. You may have to work with the formulas to achieve a closer match to the desired color.
REMEMBER: If you need to “dial-in”, “back-in” or “tweak” formulas – for either the topcoat or the primer – you MUST NOT USE Black or Raw Umber colorants. These are the colorants that cause warping!
If a formula match cannot be found to your desired color, you will receive a “NO MATCH COULD BE FOUND USING THE CURRENT DATA” message.
Please Note: Do not use more than 5 colorants
SidingSafe formulas perform
When tinting a SidingSafe color formula, products will offer similar performance on the recommended substrates.
