First of all to make my background I used the gradient tool

I then created my masthead. I did this by writing the word ‘Behind’ on one layer and writing ‘the beat’ on a different layer. I then used the rectangular marquee tool to create a rectangle, I filled it in using the bucket tool and decreased the opacity. Using the rubber tool I then proceeded to erase the areas which went over the edges of the letter ‘D.’

I then inserted my image. To do this I first had to use the quick selection tool to remove him from the black backdrop, I then copied and pasted him onto my blue background. To edit my model I used the clone tool to get rid of his circles underneath his eyes, I also used Adobe Lightroom to brighten the photo. I then added a shadow effect to make him look slightly more 3D.

I then added the coverlines and kicker using the text tool. I also added the barcode in the left hand side.

I also added the main headline using the text tool. I used the marquee tool to draw rectangles around the text to help it stand out.

For finishing touches, I added a shadow effect to all my coverlines using the effect tool to help bring the magazine to life.
