Plastic Free Alliance This year a number of proactive local community groups have come together to achieve a common goal. Their goal is to raise awareness and change people’s attitudes towards single use plastic and plastic litter in general. The hope is that this change in attitude will lead to a reduction in the consumption and littering of single use plastic products such as plastic bags and plastic bottles. The groups are quite diverse in their areas of interest, however they can see the impact that these single use plastic products are having on our marine environment and can appreciate the benefits in working collaboratively towards a solution.

Fishcare South West initiated the alliance joined by Warrnambool Coastcare Landcare Group, Friends of the Merri Marine Sanctuary, MAD for the Merri, WEAG, the Warrnambool Community Garden and Warrnambool City Council.

These community groups seek your help & wish to invite you to be part of the solution by raising awareness of the problem at your schools, work, amongst your friends and families.

What is the problem and why is it so bad?

How can you get involved? The Plastic Free Alliance is seeking your help to make videos about 'Plastics in the Aquatic Environment'. The films will be used to help raise awareness about what is currently happening with so much plastic waste in the oceans. They could be about the effects on animals, the food chain or about how the plastic we use gets to the ocean. The Plastic Free Alliance members are available to talk to if you need further assistance on the theme and basic skills about how to make the film. These films will be shown at a very special art exhibition later on in the year. If you are interested in this project or need more info please contact Justin via [email protected]
