Roger Kovacs, Jr. “RJ” 1984 - 2012 RJ was a P2 student and a pharmacy intern at the north Boulder Safeway when he passed away in June 2012.

Carol Sue Stehley 1940 – 2012 Carol’s mother, Pearl Stehley, was an alumna and a loyal supporter of our school. Upon her mother’s death, Carol remained a supporter of the school, most recently donating funds for our new building, specifically for the room that bears her name and houses the NMR equipment.

George Masunaga 1914 - 2011 George Yoshito Masunaga was an alumnus of our school (1941) and a long time supporter. George worked as a chemist with the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, as chief civilian pharmacist at Lowry Air Force Base, and later operated Walgreens stores in Denver and Adams County with his two brothers. He then opened and operated his own pharmacy, Swansea Drug Store, for many years. His family and friends generously provided donations to fund scholarships in his name that were awarded in 2011.

In memoriam

Janella Lyn Olinger 1963-2012 Janella was a hospital pharmacist and worked in the pharmaceutical industry most recently at Allergan. She was a faculty member serving as an instructor and preceptor in our NTPD program and served that program in various other capacities over a number of years. Tony Everett Jones 1920 – 2012 Tony Jones earned a PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the school in 1957 and was a long-time member of our faculty serving 33 years from 1954-1987. Tony was a research scientist for his entire career that continued until shortly before his death. He was creator and co-editor of the American Drug Index. Tony is perhaps best recognized for the creation and development of numerous well-known products including Blistex and Clearasil among many others. He received the University of Colorado School of Pharmacy Distinguished Coloradan Award in 1991. Al Malkinson 1941-2012 Scientist, scholar, educator, mentor, writer, patron of the arts, especially cinema, and a warm and caring person. Upon graduation from Johns Hopkins University with a PhD in biochemistry, Al and his wife, Lynn, served for two years in the Peace Corps in Kenya. Al served on our faculty for 34 years, joining the school in 1978. He conducted lung cancer research throughout his career, published hundreds of papers and taught in both our pharmacy and graduate PhD programs through the spring 2012 semester, just months before his death in August. In 2004, he was awarded the Shell Prize for outstanding research and teaching.

In memoriam Ruthanne Rockey Ramsey - 2012 Ruthanne died on July 13, 2012. Dr. Ramsey graduated with honors from Ohio Northern in 1976 and received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Texas-Austin in 1984. She graduated from the University of Utah Gerontology program in 1985, completing a Post-Doctorate Residency in Geriatric Clinical Pharmacy. During an outstanding career in teaching Pharmacy doctorate students, she received numerous teaching awards, including the President's Excellence in Teaching from the University of Colorado.
