HISTORY First established in 1993.

Known as Medical Laboratory Sciences (MLS)

Offered by Department of Biology in College of Science (3 years) and shared with College of Medicine and Health Sciences (2 years).

Initially only 10 students were allowed to enter the program and later was increased to 20.

Last batch of MLS graduated in 2014.

BMS AT PRESENT Moved to COM&HS in 2010.

Managed at first by BMS Management Committee.

A new department, Allied Health Sciences, established in 2014.

The name was changed to Biomedical Science in 2014.

Students intake is 25 with 5 extra seats for transfer students.

BMS AT PRESENT Degree plan was re-structured and modified.

Essential courses were created such as laboratory rotations, 3-semester research projects, and clinical placement.

Accredited recently by Institute of Biomedical Sciences, UK (founded in 1912).

The first batch graduated from an accredited program in 2015.

The program aims to produce:

Graduates who can pursue professional careers in medical diagnostic laboratories.

Successful biomedical scientists to augment the excellence of healthcare in Oman.

Independent researchers who will track higher education.

Knowledgeable and skillful graduates to work in other health sectors such as pharmaceutical and health industry.
