Birds & Bats

• NYSERDA 3 year

baseline assessment

using quarterly aerial

survey imagery across

Master Planning Area.

• Detailed quarterly

aerial survey was

conducted across

Lease Area for a

spring, summer, fall

and winter cycle.

• Other local and

regional surveys,

studies and data

• Same contractor as NYSERDA –

following identical methodology

• Survey plan has been presented to

BOEM, USFW, and NYSDEC for

technical review and comment.

• A minimum of 20% of the Lease Area

will be imaged, 10% total analysed

• 12 x monthly surveys, started

November 2017

• 1.5cm pixel resolution at sea surface

• Data publicly available online

Benthic Habitat Characterization

• New York Bight is predominantly

characterized as sand w/ isolated

patches of gravel-sand. Potential

patches of hard ground in the Lease.

• Reconnaissance assessment across

the lease area and detailed sampling

along cable routes will be conducted

in 2018.

− Grab samples and seabed

imagery

• Detailed assessment across the lease

area will be conducted in 2019 or as

appropriate.

Marine Navigation Tanker Traffic - 2013

• An assessment of visual navigation and collision avoidance;

• Impacts on communications systems, radar, and positioning systems;

• Waterway characteristics such as weather, tides, currents, and ice;

• Vessel traffic survey of 12 months of traffic;

• Risk of collision, allision, and grounding;

• Impacts on radar, both marine band and Doppler;

• Safe clearance of wind turbine rotors for identified vessel types;

• Assessment of safe navigation within the wind farm;

• Impact on USCG missions;

• Analysis of environmental response incidents in the Project Area;

• Analysis of dredging activities in the area that may be affected; and

• Risk mitigation strategies.

Marine Cultural Resources Characterization• Two categories of

resources:

− Pre-Contact (e.g.

submerged paleo-

landscapes with

preservation potential

of artifacts)

− Post-Contact (e.g.

shipwrecks)

• Assessment activity

requires detailed

mapping of the seafloor

and submarine geology

location of coastline roughly 20,000 years ago

Marine Mammal Mitigation Plan

• IHA submitted to NMFS for proposed survey

activity on November 10, 2017

• Proposing 24-hour survey operations

− Alternative Monitoring Plan:

• Passive Acoustic Monitoring

• Night Vision

• Infrared
