Alternative Methods of Decision Making

• Team Decision Making – this is very similar to Family Group Decision Making, except there is no Private Family Time. This is still a family driven meeting, but decisions are made by the family, agencies and service providers together.

• Family Meeting – this would normally occur at a family or kin member’s home and without the attendance of agencies or providers.

• Court Hearing – it is possible for the team and the agency and providers to develop and make decisions for three plans at a court hearing.

Goals that the Family DecisionsNeed to Address•Where will the child have a permanent

home?•Who are the responsible parties involved

in getting the child in his or her permanent home and keeping that child there?

•What needs will have to be met in order for the child to have a successful future? (remembering that treatment or a service is not a need)
