Compress large pictures. Rightclick on the picture in PowerPoint, then choose: format picture and click on ‘compress’ (see figure)

Insert pictures by ‘Insert > Picture > From File’. This option is better than simply copy and paste a picture from another file

To remove excess data each time you save your presentation, go to Tools > options > Save tab > and clear the ‘Allow fast saves’ check box. Doing this forces PowerPoint to remove excess data from your presentation file each time you save.
