Q2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I thought the best way to promote my artist Guv and his new music video, was

by producing a digipak and website.

• Front Cover - For my album cover I decided to keep it fairly simple. Seeing as how my music video is titled woes, I decided to stick to a black an white themed album. My front cover for my artist Guv consists of a picture of Guv looking above to the sky's whilst doing the praying hands. This was done knowingly as it is a subliminal message to God praying for my artist's woes to end. With this in mind some key logo's i put on my album in order to represent my artist would be the 6god praying hands which goes well and syncs with my album cover giving it that immortal status within rap/r&b albums as now many people will recognize my album and know its mine due to the personal and unique logo. I also decided to include the owl logo which is my trademark logo in comparison to Rick Ross's 'MMG' logo which is his trademark. I also decided to use a specific font which looks very untidy in order to correlate and link in the my music video woes, which has a narrative of my artist Guv drinking and getting very drunk, therefor the font I'm using for my digipak looks as if a drunk person is hand writing it. To make my digipak look more crisp and professional as a real album would, I decided to attach the 'Parental' icon on the front cover, as many songs within my album are explicit as my music video is. This is a convention of most Rap/R&B albums and it is very rare not to see a modern day Rap&/R&B which contains explicit language.

• Back Cover - For my back cover I choose to use a similar image to my front cover in which you see the back of my artist's head and he is looking to the left hand side where my track listing is. The fonts i used for my track list is the same i used for my title, and I stuck to the black and white theme to keep a fluent and consistent theme throughout my digipak. Also I have a few logo's on the back of my album such as the owl and praying hands in order to keep advertising my artist brand throughout the digipak. I also included a barcode and my record labels logo to keep it professional as every album has a there own unique barcode and record label logo depending on what record label has distributed the album/mixtape.

• 1st Inside Pannel (Digipak) - This panel is personally my favourite due to the image itself. The image is just a picture of my artist Guv standing on the left hand side looking into the camera. However my artist is clearly drunk due to his squinted eyes which correlate well with my music video itself, as my narrative for my music video was my artist getting drunk in order to forget about his woes. My artist is also wearing an exclusive long-sleeved shirt with his owl logo assembled with Arabic words which means woes. Also this panel consist of all my thank you's to friends, production crews and lastly God himself. The fonts used for this panel is the same as the fonts used throughout my digipak and I have continued to stick with the black and white theme in order to maintain consistency.

• 2nd Inside Panel (Digipak) - Within this panel, the image itself is striking as it is an image of my artist praying to the sky similar to my image for my front cover. However I believe this image has more meaning as it seems as if a beam from heaven is striking my artist as he prays to the sky due to the lighting of the image. This panel is where my CD will be placed, so there is no significant texts or logo's placed on this panel. As done with every panel of my digipak I have stuck to the black and white theme in order to maintain a level of consistency and keep it looking professional.

• Website- The overall style of my website is a fairly simple white and black themed website. I decided to go with this as it links in with my white and black digipak theme, and it is also a plain and attractive looking theme as it is fairly simple and eye-catching. I came up with this idea during my research of rap/r&b artist as two huge artist such as Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR both have fairly simple website which consists of a white and black theme. I thought it was only right to have the conventional tabs of a artist website, which includes a homepage, news, media, shop and a bio about my artist Guv. Although each tabs has context regarding its heading, the only tab that doesn't consist of anything is my online store which is coming soon. Also the 4 tabs all have a unique picture of my artist Guv.

• Digipak combining with the music video - I personally believe I have grasped and created a successful digipak and music video in which both effectively combine to make a strong product. A way in which my digipak combines well with my music video is through my narrative being presented through my digipak font. My narrative for my music video consist of my artist drinking and taking shots in order to get drunk which will lead to him forgetting about his woes. Therefor I decided that my digipak should contain a font that looks as if a drunk person or someone under the influence has hand written it so it correlates with my music video. I also decided to include a few trademark logo's on my digipak such as the 'owl' and '6god praying hands' that I included and added to my music video, so people can recognize and tell that the products are both mine which is a good marketing scheme. Another key aspect of my music video that links in with my digipak is the shots and poses I did for my music video. Some shots such as the praying hands, the 6 sign and more. By using similar poses in both products it makes it correspond and link in more as both products contain similar content. However a way in which my music video could have been improved in order for it to link in with my digipak more was to edit my choice of colour and theme for my music video. From a few suggestions from friends and teachers, a way in which I could have adjusted my music video in order for it to link in with my digipak more was to change and make all my scenes/music video black and white so it corresponds with my digipak more.

• Overall Combination - Although my music video can be altered in order for it to correspond and link in more with my digipak, Overall I believe that as a combination, my digipak and music video work pretty well together. Below is link to my music video - https://vimeo.com/126105608
