POSITIVELY EXPECTANT

When the doctor told methat I was with child, that I hada new life growing in me—What a wonder! What a joy!

My husband and I pouredover books that depicted whatour child was doing at eachstage of growth. Did he/she

have ears yet? Fingers? Lungs?Was it a boy or a girl? We didnot want to know—we wantedto anticipate the surprise of thegift God was giving us. WhenI first felt the movement of mychild in my womb, I was inwonder. I felt blessed beyondmeasure.

We lovingly prepared thenursery. I sewed pillows for therocking chair and matching

curtains for the window.Oh, the anticipation! Wewere expecting! We wereexpecting a beautifulchild! We positively

anticipated! Wepositively expected!

And each time I delivered a child—four sons in

all—each one surpassed ourexpectations.

God promised His people achild—a Messiah, who would bethe King of kings. He would becalled Wonderful Counselor,Mighty God, Everlasting Father,and Prince of Peace, and the

OUR CHRISTMAS GREETINGS TO YOU…Our hearts are filled to overflowing with the abundance of God’s

love for you this Christmas, 2010. In this “Year of Anniversaries”…The 60th Anniversary of Robert H. Schuller’s Ordination,our 60th Wedding Anniversary, andthe 40th Anniversary of the televised Hour of Power…we most recently visited Hong Kong and China. How wonderfully

shocked we were to see a huge cross—15 stories high—hanging overa redevelopment construction site…the home of a future church inHong Kong!

On Sunday September 19 (only three days after Bob’s 84th birthday), more than seven hundred Chinese people rose to their feet to sing the Hour of Power theme song upon our entry into thelarge hall:

“Joyful, joyful we a adore you,God of glory, Lord of love.Hearts unfold like flowers before you,Opening to the sun above.Melt the clouds of sin and sadness,Drive the dark of doubt away.Giver of immortal gladness,Fill us with the light of day!”

Then, in Beijing, at the glorious Haidian Christian Church (over 6,000members strong), a larger-than-life cross stands at its entry, over 30feet tall, proclaiming to the persons living on the Chinese mainland thatChrist is King—“Joy to the World!”

This is truly the Word of God upon our hearts for you, our belovedministry friends, this Christmas—“…the Lord has come, let earthreceive her King!” Hallelujah, Amen.

Mrs. Schuller and I once joined withover a thousand friends—including manyof Hollywood’s great stars—to salute Ethel

Waters. It was a beautiful evening! Perhapsthe best part of the event was when Ethel

Waters herself, in her own inimitable, open,honest, and transparent style, told the people

gathered how happy she was because Jesus was in her heart.We sat enthralled as Ethel performed, as we watched movie playbacks of her

great life, and as she sang and talked. As I listened to her, I thought again aboutthe tremendous odds she had overcome in her life.

She was born an illegitimate child and raised in poverty in the ghetto. By everystandard of modern psychology, Ethel should have been an emotionally deprivedand emotionally scarred person. But when you see and hear her, you find one ofthe greatest, biggest, most beautiful souls in the world! And there is no way toexplain her life except to say that something gave her a great big, loving, bubbly,beautiful heart. She says that something is a somebody—his name is Jesus!

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I am enriched and filled to overflowing because of thepower of your indwelling Spirit in my life. Thank you for your unfailing love and joy.
