Additional Catalog Number Notes
For Position 6/c enclosure types, pre-engineered FasTrac packaged drives are assembled in NEMA / UL Type 1, 12, 3R, or 4X (indoor) enclosures. Each enclosure type lends itself to a particular type of protection and environment. The enclosures that are detailed here do not normally help protect electrical equipment from condensation, corrosion, or contamination. These conditions can occur within the enclosure or enter via the conduit or unsealed openings. Make adequate provisions to safeguard against such conditions to help protect equipment properly.
NEMA / UL Type 1 enclosures are intended for indoor use. Primarily, to provide a degree of protection against contact with the enclosed equipment in locations where unusual service conditions do not exist. The enclosures are designed to meet the rod entry and rust resistance design tests. Openings in the enclosure door or sides and/or fans on the doors or sides allow for free exchange of inside and outside air. Design is based on 0…40 °C (32…104 °F) ambient temperature during operation. For 400 Hp ND/477 A drive, 0…34 ° C (32…93 °F) ambient temperature during operation. See the PowerFlex 750-Series drive specifications for storage requirements.
• A = NEMA / UL Type 1 - with fans if needed (frames 2…7)• I = NEMA / UL Type 1 - with fans if needed (frame 1)
NEMA / UL Type 12 enclosures are intended for indoor use primarily to provide a degree of protection against dust, dirt that is falling, and noncorrosive liquids that are dripping. They are designed to meet drip, dust, and rust resistance tests. There can be ventilation openings on the enclosure to allow free exchange of inside and outside air. Closed-loop auxiliary cooling can be required for higher horsepower ratings. Review the specifications for NEMA / UL Type 12 ventilated enclosures with the factory. Design is based on 0…40 °C (32…104 °F) ambient temperature during operation. Or for 400 HP ND/477 A drive, 0…34 ° C (32 °F…93 °F) ambient temperature during operation. See the PowerFlex 750-Series drive specifications for storage requirements.
• H = NEMA / UL Type 12 Ventilated - with fans if needed (frames 2…7)• J = NEMA / UL Type 12 Ventilated - with fans if needed (frame 1)
NEMA / UL Type 3R enclosures are intended for outdoor use. Primarily, to provide a degree of protection against rain, and to reduce potential damage from the formation of ice on the enclosure(1). They are designed to meet rod entry, rain(2), external icing(3), and rust-resistance design tests. They are not intended to provide protection against conditions such as dust, internal condensation, or internal icing. Design is based on -30…+40 °C (-22°F…+104 °F) ambient temperature range with power applied and disconnect on. A cabinet space heater is supplied as an option.
• R = NEMA / UL Type 3R - with shrouded fan if necessary (frames 2…7)• S = NEMA / UL Type 3R - with shrouded fan if necessary (frame 1)
NEMA / UL Type 4X enclosures are intended for indoor or outdoor use primarily to provide a degree of protection against corrosion, dust, splashed water, and hose-directed water. Design is based on 0…40 °C (32 °F… 104 °F) ambient temperature during operation.
• X = NEMA / UL Type 4X (indoor) - with shrouded fan if necessary (frames 2…5)• C= NEMA /UL Type 4X (outdoor) - with shrouded fan if necessary (frames 2...5)
(1) Evaluation criteria: No water has entered the enclosure during the specified test.(2) Evaluation criteria: No water can have reached live parts, insulation, or mechanisms.(3) Evaluation criteria: The enclosure is undamaged after ice, which accumulates during the specified test, has melted. (Note: The drive is not required to be operable while ice-laden).

IMPORTANT
The packaged drive duty cycle rating is on the drive ‘System’ data nameplate. The standard drive is used as a component in the enclosure and can indicate ratings on its nameplate that differ from the ‘System’ data nameplate. Components that are sized for NEC/typical motor ratings can limit the packaged drive system rating. In all cases, the system nameplate data supersedes any component nameplate information. Unless otherwise stated, Normal Duty Rated packaged drives cannot be used on heavy duty applications.

Input Devices
Reactors
In general, PowerFlex 750-Series drives are suitable for direct connection to a correct voltage AC line. The line must have a minimum impedance of 0.5% relative to the rated drive input kVA. If the line has lower impedance, a line reactor or isolation transformer must be added in front of the drive to increase line impedance. If the line impedance is too low, transient voltage spikes or interruptions can create excessive current spikes. The spikes can cause nuisance input fuse blowing or damage the drive power structure, or both.
The basic rules for determining if a line reactor or isolation type transformer is required are as follows:• If the AC input power system is not solidly grounded, for example high resistive ground or ungrounded, an
isolation transformer with the neutral of the secondary grounded is highly recommended. If the line-to-ground voltages on any phase can exceed 125% of the nominal line-to-line voltage, an isolation transformer with the neutral of the secondary grounded, is always required.
• If the AC line that is supplying the drive has power factor correction capacitors that are switched in and out, an isolation transformer is recommended between the capacitors and drive. If the capacitors are permanently connected and not switched, the general rules for impedance mismatch that is previously mentioned apply.
• An isolation transformer or input line reactor is recommended. Line reactors can be ordered installed in the drive enclosure. Isolation transformers are typically installed external to the enclosure.

Once this signal comes in, it must shut down the motor and give an indication of the fault. The circuit is designed so that it does not come on during power-up of the unit. The reset button clears the fault.

Maintenance
Variable speed drive equipment must be inspected periodically. Base inspection intervals on environmental and operating conditions and adjust as indicated by experience. An initial inspection within 3 or 4 months after installation is suggested. See National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) Standard No. ICS 1.3, Preventive Maintenance of Industrial Control and Systems Equipment, for general guidelines for creating a periodic maintenance program.
Inspect blowers and fans that are used for forced air cooling. Replace any that have bent, chipped, or missing blades, or if the shaft does not turn freely. Apply power momentarily to check operation. If unit does not operate, check and replace wiring, fuse, blower or fan motor as appropriate. Clean or change air filters annually or more often if atmospheric conditions cause an airflow reduction of greater than 10%.

Electrical Installation
This section contains information about input and output wiring sizes, specifications, and torque values.
Input Power Wiring
Use 75 °C (167 °F) crated copper conductor only for customer power wiring. See the PowerFlex 750-Series AC Drives Programming Manual, publication 750-PM001, for additional information and recommendations for input power wiring and selection.
To connect AC input power to the drive package:
1. Select the proper wire size according to NEC and all applicable local codes and standards.2. Punch openings in the option cabinet for the desired conduit size. Follow NEC and all applicable local codes.
See Table 4 through Table 6 for power terminal lug specifications. Depending on the option selected.3. Connect the three-phase AC input power leads (three-wire V AC) to the terminals L1, L2, and L3 on the fused
disconnect switch or circuit breaker.4. Tighten the AC input terminal power terminal lugs to the proper torque according to the drive type.
See Table 4 through Table 6.
ATTENTION: Protect the contents of the options cabinet from metal chips and other debris while drilling the conduit openings. Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage to, or destruction of, the equipment.
ATTENTION: Do not route signal and control wiring with power wiring in the same conduit. If routed in the same conduit, it can cause interference with drive operation. Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage to, or destruction of, the equipment.

Output Power Wiring
See publication 750-PM001 for additional information about the output power wiring recommendations and selection.
Follow this procedure to connect AC output power wiring from the drive to the motor.
1. Wire the three-phase AC output power motor leads by routing them according to the drive option type.
To minimize crosstalk, do not route more than three sets of motor leads through a conduit. More than three sets of motor leads could reduce the effectiveness of noise reduction methods. If more than three drive/motor connections per conduit are required, use shielded cable. Only one set of motor leads per conduit is recommended

(1) Maximum/minimum sizes that the terminal block accepts - these sizes are not recommendations. If national or local codes require sizes outside the range, lugs can be used.(2) Mechanical lugs are not supplied. You are responsible for selecting a lug that accommodates the specific bolt size.
ATTENTION: Unused wires in conduit must be grounded at both ends to avoid induced voltages that are a possible shock hazard. If a drive that shares a conduit is being installed or serviced, disable all drives that are using this conduit to avoid the possible shock hazard from cross-coupled motor leads. Failure to observe these precautions could result in bodily injury.
ATTENTION: Do not route signal and control wiring with power wiring in the same conduit. Wiring that is routed this way can cause interference with drive operation. Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage to, or destruction of, the equipment.
IMPORTANT You must punch openings in the option cabinet of the desired conduit size. Follow NEC and all applicable local codes and standards. See Table 4 through Table 6 for the output power terminal block specifications.
