New life through BFB ConversionsConverting old boilers to Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB) technology is an environmentally ideal solution. A BFB conversion improves the combustion process in the boiler which reduces emissions and increases the heat output from the fuel. For old coal-firing units that need to modernize their boilers to meet the 2016 emission requirements a conversion to BFB would give easy access to firing biomass.

After conversion, the boiler has very wide fuel flexibility and can burn industrial by-products, refuse-derived fuels and biomass. Coal, gas and oil can be used as supplementary fuels.

A boiler modernized in this way is virtually new, at a cost of approximately 30-60% of that of a new boiler.

In a Bubbling Fluidized Bed (BFB) Boiler, combustion takes place in a bed consisting of sand, fuel and ash. The bed Is held in suspension by an upward flow of combustion air. The air flow, air velocity and sand particle size are chosen to give intense mixing of air and fuel with a minimum of carry over particles leaving the furnace.

SNCR for NOx reductionMetso’s Selective Non-Catalytic NOx Reduction (SNCR) system was developed in the early ‘90s and has been installed in more than 25 power boilers all over the world. Our SNCR system typically reduces emissions of NOx by 50%.

Accessory products

FeedingmasterMetso has proprietary, in-house developed, fuel feeding systems for demanding, refuse-derived fuels. Our system is called Feedingmaster. These highly reliable systems provide power boilers with stable, environmentally friendly combustion.

Boiler inspections Our inspectors give you a precise picture of the operating status of your equip-ment. We also perform NDT wall thickness mea-surements. The inspection information and recommendations are delivered in a written report.
