This innovative product family has been specifically developedto allow the integration of otherwise large and expensiveexternal mechanisms into the body of the majority of the 6,10 & 15 mm potentiometer series thus allowing a high rangeof configurations: special tapers, tolerances, linearity, cuttrack, etc.

This detent design not only adds a "click" sensation ofposition, but also offers enormous savings in both cost andspace for any given application.

Strong and weak detents (stop positions) can be mixed as percutomer´s request.

Piher´s PT15V12 with up to 38 detents in combination with atact switch is an ideal replacement for encoders.

when the potentiometer´s wiper position is located at detentnº9 the output votage will be 88.9% Un ± % tolerance.

DETENTS WITH CONSTANT VALUE ZONES (STEPPED OUTPUTS) applicationnotes

10 stepped outputs version example:

Unique, non-overlapping values at each stop (detent position)

Prevents output value change due to light vibration or accidental rotor micro-movements

Fully customisable according to customer´s needs

Cost effective replacement for absolute encoders

Main advantages

Absolute encoders can easily bereplaced connecting the potentiometer tothe microprocessor´sanalogue input.

Design tip. Cost-effectiveness

PIHER´s potentiometers can featurespecial stepped outputs or ‘constantvoltage zones’ for the 6, 10 and 15mmproduct families.

These constant voltage zones can becombined with PIHER’s mechanicaldetents to provide exact alignmentbetween the electrical output (flatareas) and the mechanical detent’spositions. The result is a higher level ofprecision in controlling lighting, temperature, motor or other electroniccontrol systems.

In addition to established cataloguedetent configurations, we will designand manufacture any otherconfiguration on our tried-and-testedcarbon/cermet & THM/SMDpotentiometer technology andprocesses.

With its exacting control capabilities, our6, 10 and 15mm potentiometers seriesare well suited for most consumerapplications such as ovens, ranges, dishwashers, lighting (dimmers), powerhand tools, washing machines and HVACsystems.

By combining the constant value zones with the detents, engineers canalign the same voltage values with each of the detent stops when rotatingthe control both forward and backward.

This provides clear mechanical positions that are not only repeatable, butperfectly aligned electrical outputs at each of the (detent) angles.

Piher´s detents also prevent output values from changing due to vibrationor accidental rotor movements, furthering reliable control consistency.
