INTRODUCTION

Potato (Solanum tubersosum) is the main horticultural crop worldwide and the fourth in importance after corn, wheat and rice. In Europe, the cultivation area is 1.7 million hectares, with France being responsible for 13.4% of European production. Potato production in that country during 2016 was 6.5-7 million tons.

Beyond production, the starch content of the tubers is of special interest. This data is key to assess the commercial quality of the potato, calculated from the measurement of dry matter content or underwater weight.

The variety “Monalisa” chosen for the development of the present trial, is characterized by having a medium size and oval shape. It is an early harvest variety and has a high percentage of starch, which gives it excellent qualities to be used both for industry and fresh consumption.

In order to increase the tuberization and a rapid establishment of the crop, the present trial is developed which includes: 1 untreated Control thesis and 1 Stoller thesis treated with VIGOR SEED.

The Stoller technology present in the product, allows to increase the germinative power of the seed potato, favoring the growth and development of the roots and achieving a rapid establishment of the crop. This way, the product is able to ensure the adequate physiological conditions to ensure maximum tuberization.

As shown in TABLE 2 and GRAPH 1, the thesis treated with Stoller Technology obtains production increments in all the plots, with differences compared to the untreated Control thesis, ranging between 3 and 26%.

WASTE

The discards are constituted by tubers that are: small sized, damaged, deformed or with symptoms of any disease. In this case, the selection and the discarded tubers was made manually during the harvest and continued at the warehouse. The classification by size depends on the destination of the potato; in this case, the tubers weighing less than 60 gr were eliminated. Potatoes intended for fresh consumption should predominantly be medium-sized tubers (between 120 and 250 gr).

As observed in TABLE 3 and GRAPH 2, the theses treated with Stoller Technology in all the trial plots, show a lower tuber detriment, by size or deformations, with differences compared to the untreated Control, which oscillate between 13 and 32%.

VIGOR SEED: The Stoller Technology contained in the product, has improved the germination capacity of the seed potato and its cell division capacity, thus favoring: tuberization, vegetative development and tuber development.

Under the conditions in which the present trial was developed, it can be concluded that the Stoller Technology contained in the product VIGOR SEED:

• INCREASES TOTAL PRODUCTION: The thesis treated with Stoller Technology (T1), achieves an important increase of the total production, with increments compared to the untreated Control (T0) that range between 1,056 and 11,839 Kg/Ha.

• INCREASES COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION: The thesis treated with Stoller Technology (T1) achieves a substantial increase in production, with an increase compared to the untreated Control thesis (T0) that ranges between 2,222 and 12,527 Kg/Ha.

• REDUCES DISCARDED TUBERS: The thesis treated with Stoller Technology (T1), achieves a reduction of the discarded tubers due to small caliber or deformation, in comparison to the untreated Control thesis (T0) ranging between 13 and 32%.

• IMPROVES TUBER QUALITY AND DEVELOPMENT: It improves the initial root growth and subsequent vegetative development of the crop, which translates into larger tubers and better commercial quality.
