Gone are those days when one used to choose a typical course for higher
education and fulfil his/her dads dreams. Well, the buzzword that is making
todays students rethink about building their careers is employability and
not human emotions.
This means that one who have studied science might have actually desired
to enter the field of advertising, or one who have always wanted to be a
professional photographer might have been compelled to become a
engineer just to make his/her family happy. Things have changed because
choosing the wrong degree might leave todays graduates in a dilemma
and this might further lead them to nowhere.
Postgraduate qualification is a key to find the right path to success
The honours degree system in Britain that is globally recognised ask
students to take a decision at 15 as what A-Level subjects would they
choose to study so that they can finally decide to take up their preferred
degree course by 16 or 17. In respect to this, the consultant of theCareers
Group at Goldsmiths, University of London, Vanessa Freeman said that
students keep changing their minds every now and then. She moreover
said that students while studying in universities get the opportunity to meet
a diverse peer group and efficient lecturers who come up with a lot of new
ideas and suggestions that can help one choose the right career path.
According to experts, whats important is earning a postgraduate
qualification that can be the only way to decide what course you should
choose for higher education. Master degree courses that are geared
specifically towards potential industries are now being eyed upon by
undergraduates.
Niche Master Programmes are always High-scoring
University of Leedss Director,Bob Gilworthwho looks after the department
of career services came up with points that differentiate the niche master
degree programmes from others. What he meant was that students must
be inspired to focus upon master job-oriented programmes like those
offered in Petroleum Engineering, Financial Mathematics and Geophysics.

On the other hand, there are other master programmes completing which
one might have to convince his/her employers to make them feel these
qualifications earned are recognised.
Courses initiating close industry contacts are gaining recognitionCareer enthusiasts are now taking pleasure to enrol in courses that bring
close industry contacts. Plenty of courses have been introduced that can
help students to enter creative industries as well as those related to media.
A lot of students were found enrolling in the 2-year master degree course in
Game Designing at the National Film and Television School in
Beaconsfield instead of choosing typical master degree programmes in
Science or Arts. In fact, there were graduates who chose to enter into the
field of advertisement instead of going for their first degrees in alliedsubjects.
Buckinghamshire New Universitys leader of Masters in Advertising,
George Boyter said that what matters now for individuals is their
enthusiasm and curiosity that can actually lead them to success and
prosperity. Similarly, the music industry now offers incredible opportunities
than what it used to offer earlier. Students pursuing MA in music industry
promotion and management at the University of Central Lancashire also
include individuals who have graduated in communication, fashion and
business.
Students Experiences of making changes in career decisions
Students have been inspired a lot from courses in travelling and
volunteering. Ross Edgeworth, a student aged 33 says how he regained
his interest and progressed accordingly by being a graduate with a degree
in Sports Science. Later, he enrolled in sustainable development and
disaster management under the University of Northumbria. Believe it or not,he now works as a programme-funding manager in one of UKs reputed fair
trade organisations.
A 42 year-old Maths and Computer Science teacher, named Vern Nelson
who had earlier taught in St Lucia felt to make changes in his teaching
