Craniomandibular and Musculoskeletal Medicine for dentists
and specialists in general medicine
In the individual disciplines of dentistry as well as general medi-
cine, knowledge and specialization are constantly increasing. At the
interface of the individual specialist areas, the Master’s program
combines this knowledge of dentistry with manual and osteopathic
medicine.
The two-year course provides profound knowledge about diagno-
sis and therapy of CMD and is further more orientated towards the
examination of the entire musculoskeletal system.
The focus is drawn on modern treatment concepts in dentistry,
manual medicine and osteopathic medicine for immediate use in
practice.
The guidelines of the German Society for Musculoskeletal Medi-
cine (DGMSM) and the German Society for Osteopathic Medicine
(DGOM) are complied with.
Interdisciplinary networking and
internationally renowned lecturers
In a cooperation with the ZÄT-Info
and the Medical University of Inns-
bruck (Austria) renowned professors
and lecturers have developed curricula for
the postgraduate Master’s program.
The course is part-time and modular.
It is primarily carried out in Ostbevern
(near Münster,). The fi nal examination
will take place at the Medical University
of Innsbruck, and is supposed to end with
the Master of Dental Science in Cranio-
mandibular and Musculoskeletal Medi-
cine.
Comprehensive diagnosis and targeted treatment of CMD

• Master of Dental Science degree
• Cooperation with the German Society for Musculoskeletal Medicine
(DGMSM) and the German Society for Osteopathic Medicine (DGOM)
Personal success with proven and tested therapies: two years that pay off!
Nowadays many dentists are con-
fronted with treatment situations they
are often not prepared for: Cranioman-
dibular and musculoskeletal Dysfunc-
tions.
Patients with CMD require a compre-
hensive treatment concept that com-
bines elements of all disciplines: dentistry,
manual medicine and osteopathic medicine.
Accordingly university lecturers and experienced
practitioners from various individual disciplines have
developed a master’s course to bridge this knowledge gap
and provides proven and tested treatment concepts.
The course offers professionally and scientifi cally founded further
training in craniomandibular and musculoskeletal medicine at
expert level.
The entire range of the specialist fi eld and all relevant aspects of
related disciplines are taken into account. Particular attention is
paid to interdisciplinary cooperation between dentists, orthodon-
tists, orthopaedists, osteopaths, dental technicians and physiother-
apists as well as the practical implementation of what has been
learned with numerous intensive training courses.
For those who graduate with a Master of Dental Science will thus
have the opportunity to open up new fi elds of treatment for their
practice, gain confi dence in the treatment of craniomandibular
dysfunction and record their specialization.

The course: Modular and compact.
As an extra-occupational two-year course of study, special atten-
tion is paid to the compatibility of study and career when design-
ing the course offerings.
A clear focus has therefore been placed on
practice. In compact learning modules, the
knowledge of diagnostics and therapeutic
techniques is practically conveyed and inten-
sively trained. Some cases of the students are
also discussed.
The theoretical knowledge is to be prepared
off-campus online via the e-learning plat-
form and can be completed conveniently from home. Thus fewer
practice days are lost.
The presence instruction of the on Campus modules takes place
blocked on weekends in the ZÄT info Informations- und Fortbi-
ldungsgesellschaft für Zahnheilkunde GmbH, Ostbevern, Mün-
ster. A summer seminar and the fi nal examination are held at the
Medical University of Innsbruck.

At the end of the Master‘s program, we asked the students for an assess-
ment of their studies. We also asked for motivation „Why did you take the
Master‘s program in Craniomandibular and Musculoskeletal Medicine?“
We have collected some statements for you.
Feedback Voices from graduates
ZATinfo19-Bro_Masterstudien_CMM_WS_2019_EN_01-19.indd 9 08.02.19 12:04
Dr Uta Seydewitz MDSc, dentist, Dresden:
Motivation “CMD is an interdisciplinary disease with an unfortunately in-
creasing tendency. The dentist is the doctor who is most challenged to make
the right diagnosis.“
Benefi t “The Master‘s course enables me to expand my knowledge of
other medical specialties such as orthopaedics, manual medicine, psy-
chology.”
Mirjana Maria Eberl MDSc, MSc, dentist, Eichenau:
Motivation “I wanted to gain deeper knowledge about the craniomandibular
system and its effect on the musculoskeletal system.“
Benefi t „More safety in the prosthetic practice, additional qualifi cation
and referral structure with colleagues.“
Dr Bettina Kerler M.D.Sc., orthodontic specialist, Unterhaching:
Motivation “To intensify therapy and diagnosis and keep up with the current
state of science.“
Benefi t “The quality of the treatment has improved considerably as a
result.“
Riema Abdunnur MDSc, dentist, Bochum:
Motivation “I have been interested in the fi eld of craniomandibular dysfunc-
tion since I wrote my postgraduate diploma thesis on the topic of „myofas-
cial trigger points“ (2004). Since this important and indispensable branch of
dentistry was unfortunately not so well known in my home country Syria,
many patients could not be professionally helped there. This fact made me
want to expand my knowledge in this fi eld.“
Benefi t “The CMM course offers a unique opportunity to learn the connec-
tions between the medical fi elds relevant to CMD and their structured treatment
methods in the MKG fi eld. This saves the desperate CMD patients the long and
tedious journey between the various specialties and shows them clear paths to
recovery“
ZATinfo19-Bro_Masterstudien_CMM_WS_2019_EN_01-19.indd 10 08.02.19 12:04
Dipl-Stom Tom Friedrichs MDSc, dentist, Dresden:
Motivation “From the perspective of a trained prosthodontist, he has been working intensively for almost
20 years on the diagnosis and therapy of craniomandibular dysfunction to make prosthetics work better“
Benefi t “Above all the interdisciplinary medical aspect, which is regularly neglected in dental educa-
tion and training, has perfected and rounded off my knowledge.”

The Medical University of Innsbruck is a young research
institution with a long tradition. It has been founded 1669
by Leopold, the Austrian Emperor (hence Leopold Franzens
University).
It was one of the founding faculties (Philosophy 1669, fac-
ulty of Law 1670, faculty of Theology 1670, faculty of Med-
icine 1674). In its almost 340-year history, it has always
been one of the most important fl agships of the university.
