Poster produced by The DCA Rainbow Network for LGBT History Month 2007 “Making the past visible to illuminate the present.” Holly says … Although visibility may help to create an atmosphere where people get used to sexual diversity, I suppose education is the key and creating a safe environment to learn for the student and the teacher is the first step. I didn’t really come out, the news that I was visiting a gay bar in Liverpool when I was 14 was taken very badly by my father. Currently, my favourite person [in LGBT History] is Anthony Hegarty of Anthony & the Johnsons. The CD ‘I Am A Bird Now’ takes the chrysalis of the transgender experience and opens it up into a beautiful human and emotional experience.

2007 enjoys two significant legal anniversaries...

The Wolfenden Report, published in 1957 when homosexuality was illegal, found that “homosexuality cannot be legitimately regarded as a disease, because in many cases it is the only symptom and is compatible with full mental health in other respects”.

It took 10 years for the Sexual Offences Act 1967 to decriminalise homosexual acts between two adult consenting males, provided they were in private.

3 July 1967 “Frankly it's an extremely unpleasant Bill and I myself don't like it. It may well be 20 years ahead of public opinion… It has gone down very badly that the Labour Party should be associated with such a Bill.”Richard Crossman, "The Diaries of a Cabinet Minister"
