[Note to hiring unit: The intent of this MOU is to address other characteristics of postdoctoral fellow appointments that are not included in the offer letter for postdoctoral fellows.  The MOU should also include any other unit specific items, and care should be taken to insure that the MOU is consistent with the offer letter.] 

• Postdoctoral Research Fellow appointments are for those pursuing advanced scientific or scholarly training and do not involve direct patient care.

• This appointment is for one year or less with the possibility of renewal in subsequent years, not to exceed a total of five years. Renewal is subject to performance that meets or exceeds the appointing unit criteria and availability of continued funding.

• The faculty member assigned as a mentor to the Fellow will communicate the hiring unit’s standards regarding the responsibilities of the individual Research Fellow and the unit’s expectations for how the Fellow should progress through training.

• The faculty member assigned as a mentor to the Fellow will provide mentorship and a training program that will enhance the Fellow’s scholarship and ability as a researcher.

• Include a statement indicating source(s) of support for the first appointment period.

• Typically and under the appointment terms, Research Fellows will receive a salary, regardless of funding source, for the services the unit expects them to perform.

• Space will be made available for the Fellow’s use. (Describe)

• Research Fellows will be eligible for University benefits as described in Standard Practice Guide 201.19, section II D 1-8.
