John HONEYWILLborn 1952, BrisbaneLemon to lemon2018Oil on linen35 x 35cmImage courtesy the artist

Since the mid nineties Brisbane artist John Honeywill has dedicated his career to the still life genre. Luminous and serene, his paintings meticulously depict everyday objects that have niggled and intrigued him to a point of inspiration. Honeywill paints in a disciplined, hyper-real style; his subject matter compelling closer appreciation of those household objects that are both seen and unheeded in day to day life. The result is delightfully captivating; familiar yet mysterious, life-like yet unnatural and just out of reach of the home context from which they are drawn.

Honeywill was born in Brisbane and has spent the past four decades balancing a career as both professional artist and passionate secondary educator. He studied painting at the Australian Flying Art School, and has learnt under prolific Australian artists such as Roy Churcher, Betty Churcher, Mervyn Moriarty and William Robinson. A skilled Queensland painter, Honeywill’s work is held in collections across Australia, including Queensland Art Gallery, Museum of Brisbane and the Australian National Library, Canberra.

Jet JAMESborn 1984, PerthMoon whispers2018CollographImage courtesy the artist

Capricorn Coast based artist Jet James gained early recognition at a state level by competing in art competitions and winning a long list of awards. In 2008 he won the Charles Ware Award’s National Works on Paper Youth Prize and the following year became a State Finalist for the Department of Education and Training’s Vocational Student of the Year. In 2009, one of his prints was short-listed for the Youth Self Portrait Prize at the country’s prestigious National Portrait Gallery of Australia and he continued to win numerous significant regional and national awards including the Oak Hill Annual Printmaking award in Melbourne.

Jet James is a skilled printmaker specialising in large format collographs and drypoints and he is well known to the Mackay region because for almost thirteen years he has competed, won prizes and repeatedly sold works in Mackay’s popular Art on Show competition. Today, living and working in Yeppoon as an artist and printmaker, Jet James enjoys experimenting and takes inspiration from life and his environment.

Major Auction Work #49Most recently, Tim Allen was the winner of the 2017 Paddington Art Prize, a $25,000 national award for landscape painting. In 2016, he was the recipient of the Kedumba Drawing Award, and in 2014 and 2015 Tim was invited by the Nock Art Foundation on a series of artist residencies in China and Hong Kong leading to an exhibition in Hong Kong in November 2015.

Tim has been a selected finalist over 25 times in many of Australia’s leading art prizes including; Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing, Paddington Art Prize, NSW Parliament Plein Air Prize, Wynne Prize AGNSW, Dobell Prize AGNSW and the Kedumba Drawing Award.

Alison Mackay’s work has focused mainly on still life painting using oils over the last 15 years.

She has shown her work throughout Australia during this time, with 7 solo shows, many group shows and over 30 finalist places in major art prizes. These include 3 times in the Portia Geach Memorial Award for female portraiture, 4 times in the NSW Parliament’s Plein Air Painting Prize, 5 times in the Gallipoli Art Prize, along with other major prizes such as the Archibald, the EMSLA, the National Still Life Award, the Mosman Art Prize and the Black Swan prize for portraiture.

Alison works mainly from her studio at St George’s Basin (Jervis Bay) where she paints directly from life, however she also spends time working ‘en plein air’ in the landscape around her home and further afield. Her paintings have reached a broad audience both here and overseas and her works are held in both private and public collections.
