  • DEWA organises the Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and Dubai Solar Show annually under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA. This underlines DEWA’s commitment to support the sustainable development of the UAE and establish Dubai as a leading global hub for clean energy and green economy.

The success of WETEX and Dubai Solar Show 2020 on a 3D virtual platform shows Dubai’s leadership in organising major events and its ability to turn challenges into promising opportunities,

in line with the vision and directives of the wise leadership. The innovative carbon neutral exhibition, the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa, attracted 1,076 companies from 52 countries and attracted 63,058 visitors from around the world. This is the largest number in the exhibition’s history of 22 years. DEWA provided exhibitors and visitors from all around the world an exceptional experience to review the latest technologies and developments in water, energy, sustainability, and innovation.

I thank the sponsors, partners, and exhibitors whose efforts and partnerships with DEWA in establishing the exhibition’s position as one of the key specialised exhibitions in the world. I look forward to seeing you at WETEX and Dubai Solar Show 2021.

  • ABOUT DEWA THE ORGANISERWETEX & Dubai Solar Show is organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), which is a member of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, to support Dubai’s vision to build a sustainable future.

DEWA was formed on 1 January, 1992, by a decree issued by the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum to merge Dubai Electricity Company and Dubai Water Department, which had been operating independently for several years until then. Both organisations were established in 1959 through the foresight and initiative of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the late Ruler of Dubai, as government supported bodies with the objective of making an adequate and reliable supply of electricity and water available to the people of Dubai.

  • ABOUT VIRTUAL WETEX & DUBAI SOLAR SHOW 2020Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised the 22nd Water, Technology, Energy, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX & Dubai Solar Show) virtually from 26 to 28 October 2020. The 3D exhibition was the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa. It provided a new experience to exhibitors and visitors from around the world.

Using a virtual platform to host WETEX & Dubai Solar Show 2020 was a natural progression that unequivocally advocated all forms of sustainable practices. The virtual exhibition had the opportunities of a physical exhibition and much more. It eliminated geographical limitations for the attendees and exhibitors and adhered to social distancing rules that have been applied across the globe due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 3D virtual environment of WETEX & Dubai Solar Show was completely equipped with a massive exhibition arena with exhibitor stands and booths. There was a live chat facility integrated to the virtual platform that enabled the attendees to interact directly with exhibitors and get more information about their product or service. There were 5 different session rooms that hosted speakers from different sectors about carbon-neutral innovations, showing global progress towards sustainability. The virtual landscape housed a networking zone, much like physical events. Attendees and exhibitors were able to network with each other, interact through the live chat facility, and organised one-on-one meetings on the platform itself and much more.

WETEX & Dubai Solar Show 2020, took place on a fully immersive 3D environment and was the first step towards embracing digital transformation and reducing barriers to innovation. W

  • TESTIMONIALS

As a strategic partner of the 21st edition of Water Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2019, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will highlight its energy and green economy achievements in at the Dubai World Trade Centre (21-23 October 2019).

“RTA’s participation in this important global event (WETEX) offers an ideal platform to showcase our initiatives and strategic plans for a green and sustainable environment. To complement this drive, RTA always seeks to enhance the efficiency of water and electricity consumption at its premises, transit means and service delivery points,” said Nasir Hamad Bu Shehab, CEO of RTA’s Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, Head of Energy and Green Economy Committee.

“Through its stand at WETEX, RTA will roll out a host of creative initiatives such as the smart technical testing, smart safety bus, nol solar powered top-up machine, electric bus, and the field inspection unit. It will also display its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certificate –

    Gold Category.

“Last year, RTA accomplished 74 energy and green economy projects/initiatives and was the first government entity in the MENA region to obtain ISO 50001 Energy Management certificate in 2013. It also became the first entity in the region to run an award for green economy initiatives/projects in 2014. It was also the first in the region to develop and implement an integrated structure for green economy in 2016 as well as the first to develop a sustainability model in 2019.

“Initiatives run by RTA in 2018 were diverse in nature and spread across a variety of operational sectors and agencies. They had been focused on

Commenting on ACWA Power’s role as Titanium Sponsor of this year’s edition, Mohammad Abunayyan, Chairman of ACWA Power, said: “We are pleased to play an active role in this landmark event which is set to take place amid the increasing economic implications incited by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these implications, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the government of Dubai continues to progress towards the achievement of its vision to increase its renewable energy share to 75% by the year 2050. These advancements have been made possible through the comprehensive objectives and robust efforts set forth by the emirate of Dubai that aim to contribute towards its ambitious strategy of achieving a zero-carbon footprint and transforming the emirate into a global clean energy and green economy hub.”

increasing the efficient use of energy, fuel, water and renewable energy in addition to other aspects such as waste management and low carbon footprint in the Emirate. These initiatives contributed to saving more than 100 million litres of water, 33 million kilowatts of electricity, and 19 million litres of fuel besides cutting 70 thousand tons of Co2 equivalent,” explained Bu Shehab.

“Initiatives had ranged from green transport via electric and hybrid taxis to hydrogen vehicles, electric and hybrid abras powered by solar energy. Dubai Taxi had 89 electric taxis in operation in 2018 and the number is set to reach as much as 200 taxis by the end of this year. The number of hybrid taxis reached 1461 by the end of 2018 and will constitute 50% of the taxi fleet by 2021. Moreover, RTA’s public buses are fitted with Euro 5 low-emission engines, and new buses fitted with Euro 6 engines will gradually be deployed in service,” concluded the CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector.

Abunayyan affirmed that the Government of Dubai’s commitment to continuously advance its progressive visions concerning the clean energy sector have undoubtedly strengthened the investor community’s confidence in the emirate’s wise leadership. The various policies and procedures established by the Dubai Government, aimed at mitigating and addressing the adverse implications of the COVID-19 pandemic, have also induced optimism and confidence in the emirate’s investment attractiveness as a global economy.

Abunayyan also highlighted that this year’s WETEX is of particular importance in regards to Dubai’s water desalination sector as the Emirate has taken a strategic focus on enhancing the sector’s efficiency by increasing its reliance on reverse osmosis technology, expanding its deployment and leveraging modern solutions that use energy sources to produce desalinated water.

Abunayyan also expressed his pride in ACWA Power’s active participation in the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO) Private Sector Platform, which allows the private sector to play a pivotal and constructive role in achieving the WGEO’s ambitions to deploy sustainable green economy solutions across the globe. These efforts have been made possible by the robust partnership model that anchors both the public and private sector and aims to maximise investment and innovation opportunities in the regional and global green economy sector.

This year has proven to be particularly challenging for many organisations due to the recent circumstances around the COVID-19 outbreak. But we are excited to be part of the virtual exhibition and are keen to participate and contribute to yet another successful edition of WETEX.
