SHOWCASE OF
Industrial Automation & Control Technologies
6 – 8 June 2017 | Ticketpro Dome
INTRODUCTION
Africa Automation Fair 2017 was held 06 – 08 June at the Ticketpro Dome, Johannesburg.
This was the first year Africa Automation Fair was presented by Reed Exhibitions. The show was expanded and
the focus broadened to keep it aligned with the fast changing and increasingly important sector.
Enhancements to the show included the addition of exhibitors showcasing the Industrial Internet of Things
(IIoT) as well as the Connected Industries Conference which brought insights into the 4th industrial revolution
in South Africa. It was also identified that automation and manufacturing dovetail with pollution and waste
technology and allowed for the new Pollution & Waste Technology Africa Pavilion.
Industry stakeholders were integral in the growth and development of the show and provided us with informed
insights into the manufacturing and automation industry.

MARKETING & PR CONT.A comprehensive marketing campaign went out across all media platforms. The value of marketing
achieved was increased from 2015 to 2017 as well a greater penetration into the industry was secured
with the combined efforts of a PR and marketing campaign. This was achieved through increased
partnerships and a broader approach to marketing, advertising and PR.

2017 saw a marked increase in both marketing and media coverage with a dedicated PR
agent Leigh Angela from ITP Communications. Dedicated press releases were distributed to
key publications and industry media. Radio interviews were secured and additional media
partners were brought on board for 2017. This all ensured greater media coverage for AAF.

Our Exhibitors Awards Dinner was held on 8 June in the Mezzanine Level of the Ticketpro Dome and we were
thrilled that there was a great turn out of exhibitors and while it was a casual event, it was well received.

50+ confirmed scheduled meetings between exhibitors, investors, trade
visitors and visitor profiles in the matchmaking program.
ONLINE DIARY REPORT.An online business matchmaking diary was launch for 2017. The intention was to increase pre-scheduled
meetings at the show.
Challenge:
• The Online Meetings Diary was launched quite late in the process so was not used as effectively as it
could have been.
The way forward:
• We need to look at activating the diary earlier and do more follow-up with exhibitors to ensure they use
the diary
• We need to look at strategic marketing earlier to ensure it is used correctly.

CONNECTED INDUSTRIES
The Connected Industries Conference lead South Africa and the rest
of the African continent on discussions on the Fourth Industrial
Revolution.
36 local and international speakers addressed over 100 delegates
over the two day conference tackling topics such “ The technology
behind the Fourth Industrial Revolution” and “ Is South Africa ready
to advance into the Fourth Industrial Revolution to compete in
Global Markets”.
The third day of the conference moved to the floor of Africa
Automation Fair where delegates could interact with IIoT exhibitors
and listen to the presentations in the 3 theatres on the floor of the
show.
Going Forward: The conference was a great success and will be
hosted alongside Africa Automation Fair in 2019

POLLUTION & WASTE
TECHNOLOGY AFRICAPollution and Waste Technology Africa (PWTA) showcased the latest technology, innovations and
solutions for processing, reducing and managing waste and pollution.
PWTA had its own workshop area that ran over the 3 days of the exhibition.
Feedback:
The response to PWTA was slow for a number of reasons
- The industry is too far behind currently in tech to support anything bigger than a small presence or
pavilion
- There is no Government support currently
- Waste disposal is a priority in South Africa currently with technology development in the industry being
a lower priority
Going forward
- There is potential for a focus on Waste to Energy in the next 2 -5 years in the format of a formal confex

Africa Automation Fair & Connected Industries Conference
Dates: 4 – 6 June 2019
Venue: Ticketpro Dome
Format: The exhibition will continue to focus on the Industrial Automation & Control Industry. We will be keeping the Industrial Internet of Thing (IIoT) and hopefully grow this sector of the show. A new element to the show will be the addition of an Infosec pavilion.
The Connected Industries Conference will once again be hosted in the Blue Wing Conference Venue
Exhibition
1. We need to grow both the exhibition by ensuring more exhibitors and more targeted visitors
attend the exhibition
2. The workshops and content were successful however we see the need to formalize the
workshops & ensure content is finalized earlier to allow for better marketing of the workshops
Matchmaking diary
1. Introduce the diary earlier, ensure more telephonic follow-ups to increase use of the dairy
Marketing
1. We need to grow relationships with the industry and ensure more cross marketing through
exhibitors
2. Grow the PR of the show through new media channels
3. Increase digital advertising and start the digital campaign earlier.
